Question about dynamat
 

Hey guys and gals,

After I install my audio system, I am getting a lot of rattle from the top of my hatch. I was wondering if i get some dynamat will it stop the rattle? it's driving me nuts. My current set up is JL w3 with 250/1 v2

If the dynamat does stop rattle, where should I put it?

I did a search on dynamat install, but there wasn't many pictures of the top hatch? The ones Ive seen was mostly for the whole bottom hatch area where the spare tire goes.

any help would be greatly appreciated

It all depends on where that vibration is in your hatch. If it is between the sheets of metal where you can not get to than no, you would need foam or silicon injected into that location.

I would try dynomating what you can and see if that helps, if not check this stuff out.

you need to determine what is rattling you should be able to listen to the rattle and determine whether it is a metal to metal rattle or plastic on plastic or plastic on metal rattle....best way to do this is to play system at a level that causes the rattle. Listen for the rattle and put some pressure on areas that sound like they are rattling. If the rattle stops and its one of the plastic panels which is very likely as I doubt a single w3 is moving that entire hatch than add a little weight to plastic panel in question. This will likely cure plastic to plastic or plastic on metal rattles. If its metal on metal you need to locate it the same way and put something soft such as a silicone between the two pieces of metal.

I believe that the rattling sounds like its coming from the plastic that's on the hatch.

I did a test when I have my hatch close and I put pressure down on the hatch the rattling stops. As soon as I let go it'll start again

also watch out that you might not hear the buzzing inside the car, but on the outside people tend to hear exterior bits rattling with bass and is a total fail. :D

so after you're done fixing the rattle make sure you step outside/shut the door and see if you hear anything else rattling on the outside. :)

Don't know if this is the case, but I thought I had a hatch rattle and it ended up being the caps on top of the rear strut bar.
Just a place to look.

I did that and on the back of the plastic panel as well to help add some pressure between the plastic and the metal. You should get as much as you can. I was only able to get into some of the holes between the metal.
