Looks good. This will give Kenwood DNX9990HD a run for their money.

Very nice! Interface looks great.

ConchZ2 05-12-2012 06:35 AM

It’s too bad it doesn’t have a SD card memory device! Especially at that price!!

DeEePiDDy 05-12-2012 07:06 AM

yikes!! no sd card reader??? that may be a deal breaker...

NickBaragona 05-12-2012 08:16 AM

Does the 9990 have an SD card reader? What exactly does that mean? I'm assuming it will still play the music from the micro sd card in my phone, which is what I would use most.

Alpine does not have a SD card slot……or even a micro SD card slot! I listen to my phone’s micro SD card in my Pioneer HU all the time!!

Does this have USB playback?

The Kenwood DNX9990HD has this & possibly the SD card slot, but I really do not care about the SD card slot.

I have HD Radio, Cd, Pandora, XM, DVD, USB & etc.....so that is perfect for me on the Kenwood DNX9990HD.

^^ Kenwood does not have a SD card slot……I previously thought it was wasn’t really needed when having a 64GB iPod control, Pandora, SiriusXm, CD/DVD etc……..but having a memory card option added another source of entertainment!

Wow for $1,500 you could just get a really nice tablet and also be able to use it out of the car. Alpine, Kenwood, Clarion, etc. are all going to have to really think of something to battle tablets. I can see in the future Samsung teaming with Sion or something and having a docking option from the get go.

I used to run the P90 combo fro Pioneer, but currently run the top single DIN Kenwood. I can run a usb hub with 3 working ports for my 64gb flash drives or even 1TB externals as long as they are portable and low voltage draw (and a charger for my GS2) WITH an AUX and a dedicated iPod/Phone cable. I got it for like $300. $1,500 is pretty nuts IMO.

The simple problem with a tablet vs head unit battle is most people just want a head unit installed and not have to worry about custom dashed and or getting things to work with it.

Not having a SD slot is not the end of the world, simple usb to SD adapter plugged into the usb port should be fine. Or usb thumb drives are cheap enough now a days you can get one of those. I really do not see how not having a SD slot is the end of the world.

Nice unit! I would love to see it in action. Talking about Android support, this one right here has android support and looks like this is the competition. I bought this pioneer and love it. but the Alpine screen setup looks a bit more appealing.

+1........ :iagree: I completely agree with you. Hell I have a 32GB flash drive hooked up on my USB port while I have my 16GB iPhone hooked up through the iPhone adapter. If I wanted to I can hook up my terabyte to the USB. The hell with a tablet & spending the extra money into customizing it to fit. The money spent into customizing it to fit could go toward upgrading your factory speakers.

Not to mention, If your buddy had a new DJ recording on a cd there is no way you could play it instantly on an i-pad n the dash.

No against i-Pad in dash... But definitely "for" a head unit in dash.

Ricochet48 05-14-2012 07:34 PM

I never said anything about SD cards. I have a GS2 which I have a 32gb one in and hookup indirectly to my system, but that's about it.

I did, however, mention my usb port. As I said, I a lot of flexibility with it...

I can play anything from just about any source at any time.

USB Flash (and obviously anything with a USB adapter like an SD)
AUX (any phone?)
AD2P Bluetooth
Pandora/Slacker, etc. (via BT or AUX)
iPhone/iPod direct connect (although I loathe APPL)

Storage is not the issue, it's the price, that being said...

I would only get some sort of Samsung tablet, etc. running ICS at full HD, with usb ports (which I would then have the flexibility I currently have and outlined above). I would NEVER buy Apple as they are closed source (no removable anything, no rooting, etc.)

Sure it's more work, but anyone even looking at this forum understands that it's rewarding to work on a project and get it done the way you want it. I am the only one of my friends with an aftermarket stereo period, but that won't stop me. Most listen to ripped CDs at 128kps while I have 200lb subwoofers for my home theater at home. Different strokes indeed.

My only point was that for $1,500 you can get a good tablet at $600 and then upgrade again in a few years and for another $600 while still paying $300 for a really nice fiberglass install (if you really didn't want to mess with it yourself). This way you'd have an asset that's mobile and even more flexible (updated Gmaps, wifi) for the same price.

Something like this:

370z Cubby Tablet - YouTube

And as said, it you wanted it nicer instead of some 3M fake carbon ndoc or w/e, you can take the money saved and do so. Give it 2 years and Scion will have tablet screens that can be detached.
