Another Clarion CX501 Installed

Thanks for all the great info on the forum guys and gals. The HU install took about an hour including the steering wheel control set up. (I had installed component speakers and powered subwoofer earlier.) I did use the Scoshe install kit.

Thanks for the pix after install

Have been vacillating over purchasing this exact same unit to replace the OEM head unit in my base Z. I keep going back and forth between the Clarion or the Kenwood 308. If you don't mind, i'd like to "pick" your head for some info regarding your install. First off, what speakers did you replace? Am presently right in the middle of installing all 4 Polk MM6501s. Just have to figure out about running through the doors. Also, am using the Scoshe speaker mounts for the door units. When i look at your install (because, by the way, it does look wonderful!), am i looking at a new exterior panel, or does the fitment kit just include the hard wear and such for behind the OEM panel?
Just want to be sure about going ahead with this head unit. I like the knob feature, and could care less about navigation. Heck, there are only 3 roads to take here in Alaska anyway!
Also, have you had a chance to establish Bluetooth connectivity yet? That's the one feature about the Clarion that the Kenwood drops the ball...
Thanks and again, it looks really great....A beautiful unit that certainly "enhances" the look of your dash..

I replaced the front speakers with Alpine SPS 610C's. I looked at the Polks, but eventually decided on the Alpines. The Scoshe kit includes all the necessary hardware to mount the HU including a new faceplate.

I have set up the Bluetooth to my iPhone. It works great for telephone calls as well as streaming music. One does need to change the Bluetooth connect setting to "automatic" and increase the mike gain to the max. You'll also need to play with the display contrast for a good daylight/dark compromise. I also tweaked the color on a user setting for a near perfect Z match.
