Best place for wiring Rearview camera?

Where is the best place to connect rearview camera? Don't want to cut wires. The Rear reverse lamps don't have fuse on their circuit, so if camera will short circuit, the electrical managing unit will be hurted.

bigaudiofanat 12-15-2011 04:09 PM

What wiring are you looking for?
Power wire?
Reverse wire?

The reverse is in the trunk in the harness on the left you want to look for a orange wire that has 12 volts when your car is in reverse.

A 12 volt wire use either the 12 volt accessory outlet wire or one behind the head unit.

eastwest2300 12-15-2011 05:48 PM

Matt, you're saying you could use the accessory wire from the headunit to power the camera itself?

cossie1600 12-15-2011 07:18 PM

bigaudio, where is that plug located at? thanks

Which one?

cossie1600 12-15-2011 10:54 PM

One for the reverse light, thanks

Maila87 12-16-2011 11:09 AM

actually, what is best? Reverse or power? Any pics please? Will use it just for parking I guess, but firstly have to solve missing reverse pulse in wiring loom, or will have to switch to it manually.

bigaudiofanat 12-16-2011 11:54 AM

The reverse wire tells your head unit to show the reverse camera image on screen. That orange wire is located in the trunk on the left hand side on the back wall in the trunk.

The camera also needs a power wire that you can connect to either the red wire of your new hed units wiring harness or the yellow wire of the 12 volt plug on the passenger side

eastwest2300 12-16-2011 10:25 PM

So in essence, the camera is gonna have 3 main wires, power/ground/reverse lead.. good stuff. Man, I just learned something. Thanks Matt

eastwest2300 12-21-2011 06:37 PM

That sounds like a good idea, actually.

Are you planning on plugging the camera in to the Auxiliary Video in of the factory system? If you are then please note that you will need DVD/Nav bypass because the image wont be displayed with the parking brake off or if the car is moving. Also you will need to select Aux input to see the camera.

Alternatively you can use my plug and play harness which allows you to use the factory system and the camera will appear when selecting reverse and you will have the factory parking guidelines that move with the steering wheel.

Brian's harness is great, highly recommended.

So, that cable comes to wiring loom in HU. Looking forward to install my camera :ughdance:

Im looking at getting this reverse cam: Crimestopper SV-6704.IR (SV6704IR) CCD Camera with Night Vision anyone had any experience with it?

My HU actually has a Reverse cam wire coming from it, so I just need to run that to the back of the car? I'm guessing that's a remote turn on, but not sure how it will know the car's in reverse... guess I need to pull the box out and check the manual.

Can you describe the wire, what if any connector it has and whether it is a single wire?

It could be the input/trigger signal wire to tell your HU that the car is in reverse and in that case you would connect to the reversing lights or the appropriate wire on the AV harness. What year 370z do you have? I can post some pictures to show you where to connect.

Or it could be the video in where you actually plug the camera in and in that case it will typically be an RCA connector.

Interesting how every post of yours (whatever the subject) always contains a link to the same company. Do you work for that company or are you just being paid to post links to them?

It's just a purple wire that comes from the HU adapter that says 'rear view cam' no connector on the end. I've added some cable to be able to bring it to the rear of the car if need be, I just didn't know if it sends the power to the cam, or if it is the reverse tap, which is what I'm guessing it is.

I have a 2010.

just wanted to make a note about the "orange" wire BIG speaks of. When wiring my HU and Backup camera. I ran a wire with the video wire for the camera up to the headunit, connected both the wire and backup camera power wire to the "orange" wire on the harness in the trunk on the left.

Im not sure what the harness does, but there are 3 orange wires. I used the first one(one on the end of the harness). everything works great!

You should not of garbed power for the camera from that wire, but I guess you can in a pinch. You should of attached the red wire to either the red wire of your head unit wiring harness or of the 12 volt outlet.

The orange wire is to tell the head unit to show the rear camera input. yes there are 3 orange wires in the harness however only one will only show power when you put the car in reverse.

Slightly OT, but can someone tell me where the stock back up camera lens that comes with the Nav is located? I can't find it in any pics (and don't get my car for a week). I know some of them are close to the license plate frame and I just want to make sure the frame I'm looking at won't interfere.

Ok, so the purple wire from my HU is the pick up from the car saying it's in reverse. So that's the one I need to tap in the rear harness with. The camera will get 12v power from somewhere back there, I just don't know where, then use an RCA for the video input to the HU.

I'm gonna order it today, it comes with it's own drill bit for the bumper, just have to figure out where. I'm thinking that little square piece above the rear fog light.

Big - That piece, have you mounted a cam there before? Do you know how to remove it to do so if you have a DIY or a few pics would be graciously welcomed. :tiphat:
