well my HU went in over 6 months ago and I just today got the flashing airbag so I doubt it's due to that. my car did go to the dealer for it's 18750 oil change and thats all the changed so I doubt it's that either. it's fricking annoying as yell I will be trying this in a little while myself.

RustyM2001 03-26-2013 11:46 AM

:hello:Does anyone know if these steps work on the 13' models? I don't know why it would be any different, just having no luck resetting it. I just installed a HU and new speakers throughout the car. Everything is plugged in. I get the slow flashes, but then I can't get it to go out. It is flashing two long flashes and then nine quick flashes. Can someone please enlighten me as to what I'm doing wrong.:shakes head:

RustyM2001 04-01-2013 10:51 PM

Oops, I forgot to plug in the satellite sensor on the passenger door.......problem fixed. Lesson learned! This reset worked on the first try, after everything was plugged in. No more flashing SRS for me!:happydance:

Worked on a '13 for me as well. Good post, and thank you! It saved me a chunk of unnecessary maint costs.

So i got my airbag light to stop blinking as well but my SES is on now. Im hoping its something that will just go away after relearning the cycle after a few days or something but is this something common?

I dont have any other mods....just installed my double din head unit, rear backup cam and satellite radio.

Westwood, did you solve this issue???

hazard410 05-10-2013 06:33 PM

Worked like a charm. First try. Thanks!!!

PersianLegacy 06-09-2013 10:37 AM

Thanks worked for me as we'll.

I have another problem tho, not sure if it related but I have a 6 speed mt, and my rev sync don't work....this all happened after I took the car apart to install the by pass and An after market sub and amp to the existing Bose system...

Anyone else had this issue?

PersianLegacy 06-09-2013 10:57 AM

Nevermind last post, switch wasn't sitting right :c)

Maximum RPM 06-09-2013 08:42 PM

Riptide67 12-07-2013 12:25 PM

I pretty much followed the advice of everyone here except one person and failing to do that bit me in the you know what! I forget who said it but heed the advice of re-connecting the airbag indicator before testing the head unit. Of course I neglected to do that and I ended up with the flashing AIR BAG icon on the dash. I drove it that evening and it didn't seem to affect anything but it is very annoying. If you are like me during the install you probably had/have wires everywhere. Rather than install the head unit in the dash and repalce the dash trim just so I could connect the air bag switch I opted to test my head unit on my lap. Reconnecting the air bag switch is awkward as there isn't much wiggle room.
Anyway the reason for this post is to tell you how to turn that iritating light off. The procedure below worked for me. Youn might have to do it a couple or three times befor eyou get the timing right. I would like to take credit for it but it was taken from another website.

****IIMPORTANT****
Turn the ignition off as soon as the airbag light goes out the first time.

If you have the airbag light blinking here is how to reset it:

1. Push the start button two times (Ignition on but engine not started).

2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off INSTANTLY.

3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)

4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.

5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

If it does not work the first time, just repeat the steps again.

Awesome!!!!! this works! Thanks!

Mine started blinking after we installed meth injection and this fixed it! Thank you!

Super helpful, mine came on after my boost/oil pressure gauge install in the cubby and my light came on

BigEdZ 04-15-2014 10:52 AM

You're a saviour! My mechanic had no idea how to reset the light. I followed your steps once i got home and it worked beautifully!
Thanks again!

airbag light back on after a year.

Hey guys I had my airbag light turn on about a year after I installed my NRG carbon fiber seats. I placed the weight sensor underneath my seat instead of in between the cushion and the seats. I later removed my passenger seat for weight saving and just left the weight sensor on the floor. Well I let my brother sit in the passenger side floor because he wanted to se what it would feel like without a seat. He sat on the wires and weight sensor in the process so that could be one reason why my light came back on. OR it could be that a drop of water got into the 4.7ohm resistor on the driver side, since it rained last night and the wires wire visible when I opened the door.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is be a lot more careful than I am with these sensitive wires and sensors. Luckily no damage was done to the weight sensor. I have no idea what that part would have cost me. All I did was put in new resistors (on both sides) and reset the airbags. Worked fine with all chimes. OH! And If anyone is need of these resistors just PM me and I can send a few out to you. I bought a pack of about 100 and they're just kinda sitting in a drawer somewhere. Would like to help anyone in need of these little suckers. Haha

Wow...perfect. Nissan wanted to charge me $155 to do this today. So glad I tried this first!

Thanks!

cycy89 03-16-2016 05:37 PM

Hello! So I tried this method, now it just blinks randomly, fast and slow. I guess it's stuck at diagnostic mode?

It work for me. The first cycle it just slowed the blinking and then I did it again and it stopped blinking.

So I repeated first step 3 times, it started blinking randomly l, slow and fast. Then I did it again, nothing happened. Now it's just randomly blinking.

Did you start the car immediately after you completed the last cycle?

No. You mean after the diagnostic cycle?

Yes, when you finish the cycle after the second time then right before it blinks again start the car. I would say try resetting the ecu if it doesn't work when you start your engine and then do it again.

There is a short YouTube video demonstrating the process.

It always gets stuck at the slow and fast blink.

Solid airbag light

I have a solid airbag light that stays on when car is first turned on or is in acc. What can i do to fix?

Jay21 06-12-2016 02:05 PM

Fyi....2016 i had to turn off when the Passenger airbag light went out. Tried this like 20 times as listed with no joy. Noticed out of the corner of my eye the passenger light went out about a second before the guage light

caliraftdude 08-15-2016 04:34 PM

I was at the dealership the other day for some routine maintenance and asked about this.. $150 service charge. I let them know about a marijuana dispensary in Denver they should look into. They tried to con me with a "its a very complex procedure" to which I laughed at saying $150 would pay for a lot of smiley face stickers if it really started annoying me.

This is a much better solution - thanks a bunch for the post and the help!!

wurtingd 11-11-2016 03:34 PM

This was simply awesome! Thanks, man!!

pumpgas89 02-16-2017 01:01 PM

THANK YOU for the helpful post. Had to do it the second time around but it works. major attention on step 2 and 5. first, if not turn off immediately it will not work. second, if you reach step 5 and the light is not blinking slow (diagnostic mode) you should stop and restart. The main goal is to initiate diagnostic mode to disarm airbag light warning.

FLA370Z 02-28-2017 04:09 PM

Worked glouriously :)
