screen in cubby hole, what to hook up?
i will be installing a 7" monitor in my cubby hole, it has 2 (i'm assuming) regular a/v connections. i would like to be able to hook up an xbox 360 to it possibly. what are some other cool things i could hook into it?
|
I would put a spot for a "MYFI" or another wireless broadband network. That way you can play 360 while driving & can check webmail..
I have one for my car.. 50 Bucks I think Just a thought |

All the aftermarket screens I've seen installed in the cubby look wierd IMO. The only way it looks right is if its recessed back like the factory Nav. screen. To me, the only acceptable use for that screen would be for navigation or on something that shows vehicle telemetry data. Leave the x-box at home... Fast and Furious cars don't even have them any more.

i did mine myself..I went for the recessed look..I use mine for a nav and car PC....Cost me about $30 in material and alot of scratchn my head...By turned out decent....
|
Not bad looking...trying to figure out what to do with my 370.
|
I have been looking around to see what I can do in mine. And I came upon this thing for the iPhone
Mimics You could probably buy the module and get a modify a monitor and put it in the cubby hole... But I have an android and I am not switching, so this is not an option for me... |

Been wondering what to put in there myself, somehow having it holding my sunglasses feels wrong.

Iwan..go buy Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1...and do like me..hehe
http://www.the370z.com/members/zen-a...n-assure-u.jpg Item needed :- 1. Cheapo black casing ~ 15 bucks 2. Cut all leather on that booktype leather casing 3. Buy velcro (with double side tape on it), put it at the back of the casing 4. Take another velcro 2 each and wrap snuggly around your cubby lid. You can remove this velcro anytime or just leave it there like me. NO NEED TO GLUE IT TO CUBBY !! 5. Stick your galaxy tab and try push it downward, that should give it abit of assurance. 6. Buy a bluetooth headset with audio jack out and put into AUX or hardwire into your amp if you have it. Then pair both, mine play stereo via A2DP. I listen to acoustic music all day long (Had a long list of music vids from Boyce Avenue) and damn it sounds good. I've been driving around with the tab on my car for past 1 month, it doesnt move at all even with my hard spirited driving :D. Best thing is, i can remove the tab within a minute, just unhook wire and pull from top. |
wow that sure looks good! thumbs up for picking samsung
i've a hard time deciding ipad 2 or galaxy tab 10.1.. which one is better on your opinion? choices choices choices :shakes head: :roflpuke2: Quote:

TAB for me as i have my ipod touch...i'm bored already with ipad and the interface, love my new Samsung Tab...WIFI/BLUETOOTH/HDMI OUT/3G..everything under one hood..the screen is gorgeous !! Now looking for OBD2 plx bluetooth interface so i can pair it :D...With the tab, i tend to park my car more and watch movie on it..10.1 FTW !!
|
Haiyaa if you said like that, i guess i'll have to go to samsung's retailer and try them out lol. how do they response to the touch? fast and responsive like ipad's?
good luck with your search for OBD2 bro  Quote:

That is ******* sick. Do u have pictures and instruction for the install |
I've got a similar desire to put some sort of useful screen in that cubby. I had pondered a Nexus 7.. a car pc.. or some sort of dedicated obd2 interface (seen a couple). I'm liking the ideas from this thread. Please keep the ideas coming!
|
Nexus 7 is now the best thing for it... at 200 dollars your local car audio place could prob fab your cubby for around 150 at MOST.... so total 350 and you have badass screen with navi? AWESOME!
im actually going to be changing mine from galaxy 7 to nexus 7 hopefully soon |

What are you going to do about the hole where the oem nav controls would go? I love the idea of putting a screen up in the cubby, but I just haven't seen it pulled off quite right. There's always "something" that turns me away...

I have a piece of painted plastic which covers the OEM nav controls.
Most people think what I have is OEM, I have had people ask if I could put a 5" touch screen in that spot which could control things, or if you have a carPC it can control the PC. |
Can you post a pic of what it looks like now with the control location covered?

I got you. No offense, but that would just drive me nuts! Don't get me wrong, the screen part looks great, but that hole for the buttons would just bug the hell out of me.

The 'hole' you see around the edge is not really a hole just shadow. The OEM nav pieces bow slightly so bending the plastic is not perfect. If I could have gotten the OEM buttons for cheap (they are overpriced even at dealer price level) I would have tested them and see if I could have wired them to be functional with my HKS camp2. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-r...A0ABAEB6B9.JPG |
How smooth is the transition between the dash kit around your Headunit and the oem nav bezel around your screen? That would be another issue for me..

With the lower piece what we did was cut the top to make if flat (it curves normally) and then shaved a little off the bottom just above the buttons to bring the head unit down so I had access to the DVD/CD slot if needed. Did not have to do this part but it gave me easier access to the slot. Here is another one done in Houston by a friend. He cut the OEM nav control piece out completely so he could use the OEM lower face with no cutting required. I do not have the final picture after he covered it up though. http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...3/IMG_1625.jpg |
I love the set up Dreamer. I currently am finishing up mine and waiting in anticipation for my Nav Bezel unit (entire piece) to come so I can swap it all out. I am really thinking hard as to what I want to do with the empty space, and think that for now, just cover it up. Once the TT setup is done maybe boost gauge, or even a mousepad as touched upon in a few other threads.
I think the touchpad would be nice if once could be found to fit the different diameter of it. |
you can pick up the stock nav keypad off ebay from g37's etc.... but lowest I saw them are about $150...... unless you run a computer, would be tough to program the keys...

Currently whats in the chubby now is an Sirius head unit connected to the radio and I want to take it out. |
