Sirius Antenna location

If this has been covered in another thread, I apologize. The tech is suggesting to put the antenna on roof, but right above the windshield. I've only seen after market antennas placed right above the the rear window...in this case the hatch. He told me that the gap between the hatch and the roof is so narrow that when opening and closing it, he is concerned that the wire may be punched and cut. Is that a legit reason, or is he just being lazy? Thanks fellas!

I think being lazy and I am not thinking that is a good location. I could not imagine the wire being ran in a fashion that it would look good either. I would put it under the rear floor however your best place is where everyone puts it in the front dash right next to the right tweeter.

Thanks for the information! I've been reading posts that a metal plate is needed when putting it on the dash...is it necessary and does it come with the Sirius equipment? What color is it? Thanks again!

It's black and comes with your unit "double din mostly" You can use double stick thin tape to mount it and some just place it there it really does not move around if the wire is tucked right.

You can be really be picky and install it where the GPS antenna would go if you had Navi. There is a metal plate there under the dash.

I looked at crutchfield and it doesn't seem to come with the sirius unit. Is it a special order when you say "double din mostly"? thanks

Sorry for all the follow up questions. What if I am looking at a non-nav DD HU? Should I look on ebay for the plate, or can it be ordered directly from Sirius?

I just realized something.....is it actually for the GPS antenna, but others have been using it for the Sirius antenna?

As far as I know there only seen when you buy a head unit with nav. I have not seen them for sale anywhere.

FYI I had another car that eventually did pinch through on a hatch... he may not be totally BSing as it is probably more work to hide it in the front molding than the rear IMO.
