Have any of you used navtool to add DVD to Factory Nav?

I just purchased the Navtool, and I am wondering if any of you have used it to add a DVD player to the factory navigation screen. If you have, how did you go about doing that? When I was reading about the navtool it says that it only has video inputs, so where does the sound come from? Also if you have a separate DVD player, where did you install it, and what did you buy?

P.S. if you added a backup camera, which one did you use?

You would have to use a AUX input or add one to your system to allow for audio. You would also have to Y split the video input wire if you still want to use the rear camera as well and only select one at a time.

You would need to install a separate dvd player If I was doing the install I would custom fabricate something so it could be installed in the flip out pocket behind the passenger seat.

So how would you have the audio come from one source and the video come from another source? How would the navigation system know to get audio from the aux, and video from the navtool?

Ya your right so that will not work. Aftermarket head unit would be the simple way.

Oh I like the look and fitment of stock. Might just do camera and no dvd

I just bought the navtool too. I was going to use the audio port in the armrest and then the video input on the navtool. A couple of audio guys I've spoken with says that should work. Buy won't know for a week or so till I can install it.

I do not think it will because there coming from two separate inputs. Unless you can somehow use the rca inputs under the armrest for the dvd player.

Can you elaborate on how you got that working? Been searching forever, trying to get an answer to this question: How can I display movies from my iphone? (I have a 2009 w/ factory nav)

I'd be willing to bet that you could fab some sort of video switcher to a solenoid wired to a reverse lead to auto swtich to reverse cam when backing up. Sort of the same way the head units do it internally.

I bought a AV cable (see picture). Ran the video cable to the navtool and then used the audio ports in the armrest. Change the radio to the aux inputs and switch the navtool on. The navtool plays the video and audio ports take care of the rest. After the install (with help from XwChriswX!) the picture was pixilated, but just pressing the "settings" button fixed the video and it works great. (Chris's brilliant idea)

Ah, interesting. Might have to break down and get the navtool after all. Shame it's so hard to get cheap. Think navtool lists it for $350 on their now...ugh.
