Spare tire well boxes 101.........
 

Ok guys I got another 370Z in today only gonna have it for 1 day so I'm going to make this nice and simple so you guys can make your spare tire well sub choices correctly. Here are pics and the facts.

1. The internal air space of the spare tire .6422 cu ft.

2. I measured it using packing peanuts and a box with the internal air space of .3 cu ft (JL 8w3v2 sub box) 9.25" x 10" x 6"

3. I figured out that the ideal sub choice would be the following (based upon the subs that we carry at my job:

(1) MTX TT6510 10" SLIM WOOFER
(1) PIONEER SW1041D 10" SLIM WOOFER
(1) JL 10W1V2 10 WOOFER
(2) JL 8W3V3 8" SUBS
(3) JL 8W1V2 8" SUBS
(2) JL 6W3V3 6" SUBS
(4) JL 6W3V3 6" SUBS MY PERSONAL CHOICE FOR ALOT OF OUT PUT! 400-600 WATTS

Enjoy time to go home I'll post pics of this car when i'm done too bad he's not getting any subs just amp and front and rear speakers and keeping the stock head unit.

13" JL audio wont work?

I have to say I never even thought about the (4) 6"s or (3) 8"s - but the recommended volumes match. What a trip.

I may have to try the (4) 6"s - they would presumably be ridiculously controlled at low-middle volumes, and plenty powerful at higher levels. Very cool.

Comment/question #3 (sorry about all these):

What was the volume of the box you guys were able to build back there on the first install, when you stripped the spare tire well completely? Based on the subs, I'd assume you were able to get 1.25 cu. feet worth of box in that space...

The JL 13 flat sub will not fit inside of the spare tire at all! NO WAY NO HOW!

We really do appreciate you as well!!! If you plugged the holes in the bottom of the wheel well for the lug nuts, and dropped a baffle in, that wedged on the first real lip inside the well about an inch or so down, with the Pioneer thinline 10", you still would not get a tight enough seal for that to work? They also make an 8" in this model that does free-air as well. I hope an aftermarket enclosure that drops in this space comes available sometime soon.

You cant do Free air in a hatchback without venting the subs outside of the car. And you would need to fiberglass the inside of the tire in order to seal it the right way!

I got a spare tire today! I'll try to fab my first few boxes by the weekend.....

Jeff, I already have 2x MTX TR75 10"s. Do you think I'll be able to do a fiberglass enclosure to atleast put one in? That way, I don't have to buy another or rather a different sub.

Hey Jeff, got any recommendations on shops down in my area (Houston, TX)? I'm looking for someone to fab up some custom stuff in my trunk area. Basically, I want to customize the trunk area of the car with some fiberglass work. The idea is to kill the stock spare/sub/tools stuff, and put in a new liner that gives me a whole lot more trunk room for cargo (deeper), and then some carpeting to go over it. Still needs to be removable though, and needs to fit some custom stuff underneath (battery box + magden computer). I don't really know the audio shops around here at all, but I figure a good audio install place would be my best bet, even though no actual audio components are going in :)

I was able to fit a Pioneer TS-SW2501S4 in the Sport spare (which seems to be different than the one in your pics). It had the slimmest depth of any 10" sub I could find at 3". Also, I was able to pull about .55 sq ft of internal volume out of the enclosure with fiberglass, but it pushes the carpet up about .5 to .75 inches due to the sub bottoming out on the ring/screw that secures the spare tire.

The Pioneer sounds pretty incredible and has great range/rolloff for a 10" in a small enclosure. I had a 12" MB Quart in an enclosure that was about 75% the ideal sealed volume and it sounded terrible in comparison.
