Low Light Rear Backup Camera

I had a rear backup camera installed and it works great during the day. At night, the picture gets really grainy. Applying the brakes adds light which improves the picture but the quality is still bad. I would like something similar in performance to the OEM camera in my wife's 2009 G37 coupe.

I do not have the invoice with me right now but I paid around $150 for the camera and it does have parking lines.

Any suggestions to a model which performs more like the OEM model? Would the OEM camera work on my setup? (Pioneer Z120BT)

Thanks!

What type of license plate lights do you have? I would suggest getting LED's. I did and it made a huge difference. I purchased this model for my 370:

NISSAN 370Z CCD NTSC Car Rear View Backup Camera | eBay

Day and night viewing are very clear and I have no complaints.....

Thanks for the suggestion about the license plate lights, I will try that first before changing the camera out. Where did you purchase your license plate lights from?

im reading reviews that the pioneer BC4's are good under low light.

Amazon.com: Pioneer ND-BC4 Universal Rear View Camera: Electronics

you probably got the kenwood one. they're known for poor imaging at night with parking guidelines...

I got mine from Third Gear Performance. They're in the vendor classified section. Their pricing is extremely reasonable.

Rather than license plate lights, I'd be more inclined to go with LED back-up bulbs. Maybe both.

Really like this cam. How is it holding up and do you know if it will work with 2009 Sat/Nav screen via the RCA connections in the center console?

Thanks

I don't know if this is the $20 camera, but mine is useless at night.

Good in the day, mine runs all the time even when i am going straight
