2011 Touring w/sport Bose system upgrade question

Hello,

Ok I am new here and Im trying to decide between a 2011 sport touring vs a 2011 sport touring with nav.

I would like to know if I buy the non nav car that has the bose system can I upgrade the head unit easily to include navigation without having to add some kid of external antenna that is visible on the dash? Can a new Double Din unit
take advantage of the built stock nissan mic and satellite antenna that comes with the car?

Id actually really like the Nissan Nav unit but the car is several states away and would require delivery fees and no real discount on the vehicle since my local dealer would have to go get it.

Thanks in advance
Matt

Anyone know answers to some of the questions above?

The Bose touring deck is actually pretty cumbersome to replace. You would need Replace the hvac control unit face also. The base model stereo is the easiest to upgrade.280 Audio & Visual :: Body Electrical :: Genuine Nissan Parts :: 370Z Parts (Z34) 2009-2011 :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com

Well I do appreciate the reply. I cant change the fact that the alternative to the nav car has the Bose head unit in it. That being said, Im sure it can be done but Id like to know if I can utilize the existing mic and satellite antenna- to begin with.

IS there not a faceplate for to swap out that takes care of the hvac control unit face?

Yea, you can just buy something like this..

Amazon.com: Metra 99-7607B Dash Kit for 2009 Nissan 370Z (Matte Black): Electronics

In my opinion its no harder to remove the Bose HU than the standard. Though I have not replaced mine yet.

The metra kit works well and very affordable. The oem part is like $200. Honestly, I would go for the one with nav if that's what you really want. Everything is integrated and the screen position is much better for the nav. Aftermarket decks can be had that outperform the oem's, but the factory stuff just looks cleaner IMO. Just as the car designer intended. Sorry I couldnt be more help.

Why don't you just use a GPS-enabled smart phone? Problem solved! Glad I could be of help!

Also, if I have read correctly.. the OEM nav unit will let you access a few more things.

Meh. Nothing The PLX Kiwi coupled with an iPhone/iPad couldn't provide! :)

I agree with you 100%- Im hoping that car is still available. AND the resale value would be better with stock nav. I see you are on LI- where did you get your Z?

I got it from Advantage Nissan in Westbury, but that was before I knew about this site. Koeppel Nissan is a forum sponsor in the Tri-State area. They might be able to find the car for you without getting ripped-off. Send them a PM, it doesn't hurt to ask. Also, do some searching on the site for what others have paid (usually close to invoice), if you haven't already. If you want to meet other Z owners on LI, there is a weekly meet in Great Neck.
