time to upgrade!

HI,

I have a Base model with a Kenwood 9960 HU;

I am now ready to do the following upgrades:

1. rear speakers ( I know most people do not agree with rear speakers in the Z), but I like em and I am getting them. I am open to suggestions from people that have installed rear speakers in the base model..

2. rear view camera: I am open to suggestion for this, but I am leaning towards the kenwood cmos-300.

3. might upgrade the front tweeters ( have no idea as to which one to use)

4. is there a point in using dynamat in trunk for the setup I will have?

5. door speakers a few months later...

I will not have an amp or a sub.

Please make any suggestions / comments on the above... Also any install tips would be great.

Thanks.

I put some Infinity Kappa 32.9cf 3 1/2" speakers in the rear and they fit perfectly. Minor cutting on the plastic to allow the speaker ring to drop down.

I'd suggest doing the full component speakers setup in the front with new wires. I wasn't going to run new wires, but it ended up being so much easier to do. Plus the fact that the factory wires are puny. I put in Kenwood KFC-P708. Not running an amp and I think they sound great. Had to play around with the equalizer and audio settings a LOT to get the desired result.

I've got the CMOS300, which is nice because of the multiple views that are controlled directly from the HU.

I also Dynamatted and it cut down on SOO much road noise.

Thanks, how much dynamat did you have to use for the trunk?

I bough the kit below and was able to do the back and doors and still have some left. Depends on how thorough you want to be. It will do the back end heavily.

what did you do with the "remote" that came with the cmos 300 ? Were did you place it?

TreeSemdyZee 04-14-2011 12:35 PM

If you mean the push button, you don't need it with the 9960.
To change views on the HU, you touch the right side of the screen when the camera view is up. You touch the left side to turn the backup lines on and off.

any suggestions on the rear view camera? something that will be as good as the kenwood cmos 300 and will work well with the 9960, but not as $$ as the cmos300?

I know most will say dont get rear speakers...

but lets say this is "not" for the Z which of the 2 below speakers.. do you suggest ?

Also how much Dynamat should I need for the trunk?

and the length of the speaker wires for the rear?

I am going to connect this to kenwood 9960..

Thanks,
jay

:iagree: What you should do is take the money that you have to spend on the Dyna Mat along with the money for the rear speakers and get yourself a good set of front speakers.

jayl 04-25-2011 02:54 PM

if i only had x to spend i would have asked what should I do... but here the case is.. I WANT to get rear speakers... no asking if I should...or how is the $ i want to spend.. spent best!

I am asking for opinions between the 2 speakers from above.

Thanks,

I have no personal knowledge of the speakers you listed, but these are the ones that I bought.

Infinity Kappa 32.9cf 3-1/2" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield Signature

I actually paid $60 in their "outlet" store.

If you buy from Crutchfield, use this coupon: pkxw8-q51r5-31twz.
It should give you $20 off of your order.

edit: Codicil to that code. You have to spend $200 and it has to be your first order.

jayl 04-26-2011 11:06 PM

Thanks, I ordered the same speakers.... (Infinity)

got a cheaper camera...

Now trying to decide if the Dynamat 19405 Xtreme Trunk Kit will be enough or not..for the trunk..

Amazon.com: Dynamat 19405 Xtreme Trunk Kit: Electronics

Also what gauge speaker wire should I get? and how long?

TreeSemdyZee 04-26-2011 11:23 PM

You might be able to do the trunk with that kit, but you probably won't be able to cover everything. It depends on how complete you want to be. I got nine sheets, did the trunk and doors and still have a little left. That kit will definitely be enough for major sound reduction.

This is the wire that I used on the front and rear speakers. I bought 50 feet and did the door, dash and rear speakers with some left over. I just did a rough measurement with a tape measure to figure out how much I needed.
