Novice Sound System Questions

Good Evening,

I'm picking up my 370z this coming week and know very little about sound systems. I will have about 1500 to play with. My 370 will be fully loaded with sports/navi. I am listen to everything, rap, rock, hardcore, hip hop, whatever. I am looking for something that can keep up. I was really looking at 1 or 2 10s, with a rear facing box + amp. Any plausible recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I am also looking for recommendations based on personal experience, not theory. If you could recommend any set ups that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

ps. I have read through many threads but am really looking for a ground up set up, approximate costs, etc.

Start by upgrading your head unit and using a amp also add new speakers than look at another amp and subs. If you are serious about something that can "keep up" you are looking for a full system and not just subs. Yes this will probably mean upgrading your budget however the end result will be much cleaner than just adding subs to a stock system.

Also are you installing yourself? If not your going to have to add cost for install from a installer.

You could do the fallowing:

Kenwood head unit "double din or single din?"

Alpine pdx5 amp for around 350-400 dollars

Polk db for 110 or upgrade to the polk mm for additional cost of 60

Sub and sub box total 400

Steering wheel controls? add 80

Install varies

You'er in Calgary? PM me, i live here too, we could meet up and i could help you out.

Which dealer did you get it from?

Why spend almost 2k on the nav package and then take it out?

dAvenue 03-29-2011 12:52 PM

I agree with Wrenise. It would be a waste of money to remove the stock navigation. Surely, there are alternatives to improve his sound quality while keeping the stock nav in tact.

There are a bunch of was to keep the stock hu and add on. The EeQ 5 is a basic way, as well Audio Control has an awesome new piece that will be out rigt away that would be great!

Yeah in all honesty I had looking to keep the head unit. I'm really looking to throw in a box, 1/2 10s and an amp. Thank you for all the tips as far, any other set-ups recommendations?

dAvenue 03-29-2011 02:09 PM

phil028, I have read from members here that two 10" subs would be overkill within the Z's small cabin and I tend to agree with them. I think just one sub would be plenty of bass for you. However, don't let our opinions change yours.

It's all about the quality of a speaker's enclosure for it to produce good sound. I recommend checking out Zenclosures. They offer some very solid solutions for our car specifically.

I have looked into those. Thank you for the heads up. I called around a few shops and one of the base offers I received was:

- pioneer 1000 amp (price?)
- deck 100/200
- dash kit/wire harness 50
- 1 10/amp (75 sub, 150 amp) – kenwood (kfcw2512), kenwood kac5203 (350w)
- ported box 75ish (efx)
- Kailin install (240)

790 without the cost of the amp...any thoughts? anyone have any experience with the efx sub box?

This is a typical Matt post, not much information other than hacking down our 50,000 sports cars. Maybe one day when he can afford such a nice car, he might not be so quick to trash on the stock system.

My suggestion is to go as highend as possible on the factory integration, this is where you will notice the most quality gains. I found going lower end on the integration forced me to change my whole system out.

If you just want to meet up at and hear what a single 12 sounds like let me know.

What system's have been found to be successful for integrating with the navi package? Like I said, my main focus is not to get as much kick but more-so maintain sound quality.

The top one on the market is the Audison Bitone, it seems the JL audio cleansweep and the AudioControl unit seems promising. If I were to do it with a setup like yours with the Navi, I would go with the Audison unit. I do believe 90st is your best option to get informed, being your in the same place I would use him first.

Maybe you could convince him to sell you his enclosure!

Surprizing enough, most of my guys that do both Audison and AC perfer the Audio Control...the Bit one is nice, but you pay for a lot of things most people will not use.

We just had our Webinar with Audio Control yesteday, and they have a couple new pieces coming out. Wicked pricing on the new stuff. Oh we're the new Audio Control Dist for Canada by the way.

On another note, i am building a new sub box in the next week or two. :) I have two TT6510-04 subs coming that i want to play with.

There is a new piece Bit 10 Coming out by Audison It should retail for about$400-450 Price range. It will be the ultimate Processor for what you are trying to do. You can get a JL XD700/5 Amp bridge the amp to 3 channel and have 350 Watts on the sub channel and have about 150-200 Watts for the front speakers. Get a set of HSK 165 HERTZ Audio component speakers and you are well on your way to get a great sound in the 370Z. And you are not sacrificing quality.

If you want to add the sub as well, there are many options out there. including our Spare tire design 370Z Magic Box depending on what model Z you have. However we are also coming out with the 19" spare enclosure next week.

You can also get the JL Stealth box with 2X10w3v3 Subs the finish on this enclosure is excellent and blows away anything out there that is made out of MDF. It also comes with subs. I do have a special price set up for 370Z members if you would like to PM me.
