help with a powered sub
i know most true audio guys will won't to flame me sorry....
but if you just had to what would you suggest in the way of a powered sub... so far my setup is a JVC DD with a set of JBL component speakers.... just trying to round it out a little. thanks for any help |
Depends how much bass you want...i have heard a couple, that for the money are not tooooooo bad.

I've got a bazooka powered sub slotted in the space under the floor mat right behind the strut bar. It sounds great, and I might be interested in selling it if you want, as I am moving in a different direction with the car now and no longer need a stereo system.

You could do a powered box, but honestly, the SQ/clarity of that setup might not be as good as just getting a matched sub/amp. You don't really have to get biggest/best out there, but even a good pair would be less than $500 and sound better. Just my :twocents:

If you are just looking for some good quality bass I would look into either a stealth box or something like the kenwood slim stealth sub. I installed one in a z last year, it was not crazy bass but gave music a warmer tone than without one. I would recommend that over the bazooka tube as they can be very "boomy" nothing against yours rockstar.
|
its mine, not Rockstars, and its not boomy at all, plus it takes up zero room in the car.
Rockstar, its a 6.5" sub. |
JL Audio Mobile - PWM112-WXJX
these just came out, heard one local and its a solid amount of output for the money. |

A buddy of mine had a bazooka tube and I liked the sound of it... |

How did you get that Bazooka to fit? I took some measurements and at 8" high ... it doesn't work in either direction. Does it stick up some above the foam level in your car? I think this is an awesome place for a subwoofer, but I would like it to completely fit under the carpet without sticking up if possible.
Thanks! |

I have been used to ported 12" subs pushing around 600 watt rms prior to this sub. I have to say, there are certain songs that make me wish I had spent more on a stealth box with a full sized sub, but honestly for 95% of the music I listen to this bazooka is PLENTY. I got it for $190 shipped, so you cant beat that price for an amp+sub+box (plus weighs very little)...especially if you want stealth. Also, I consider this cheaper sub as a health plan for my ears :) |
The tube is fine like I said if you just want some boom but for clear bass you like you said would have wanted a stealth box.
|
It is pretty amazing, it is almost like that size of Bazooka was made specifically for the car! Did you go with the 100 watt amplified or the 250 watt amplified bazooka tube? They both look to be the same dimensions. Did you put any foam around the Bazooka on the bottom and around the sides to prevent vibaration or rattles since it is plastic up against the metal of the car?
Thanks for the comments ... I really appreciate them. I agree, a health plan for the ears. I am just looking for good solid/tight bass. |
If you are looking to be bored of the bass you have in a very short aount of time bazooka will do.
I don't mean to be harsh but it is just not going to produce an accurate sound. Yes it will fit in that cubby but... well you know what I mean. |
Thanks for your opinion ... but I don't think you know what I am looking for here. I want something that I can fit into the car and maintain the interior specifications. I am not going to go to stereo competitions and I want to maintain the little storage area that is in the Z. I don't want a huge overwhelming box in the hatch to where I look over my shoulder and that is all I see. Theft is also another concern. I have read review after review that these bass tubes are more than adequate for 90% of what people listen to ... and probably 100% of what I will be listening to. I don't consider it harsh, it is just your opinion.
Thanks! |

I do agree with some comments the others that have posted, as the sub fits and fills the low-freq void, but also it leaves a lot to be desired. |
Hey all,
I recently purchased the Polk DB6501 speakers, and will be also ordering a Pioneer 4300DVD unit to go along with them. Ive been looking at some of the sub installs, and I have to say, this one in particular caught my attention because of the "stealth" factor. However, I was initially thinking about getting a separate amp and sub, the main reason being I would want the amp to also power the component speakers in the system (basically turning a 4 x 75 into a a 2+1 amp). What are my options in terms of being able to completely hide these components, though? I know the amp would possibly fit below the seat, or in the space were Mike installed his bazooka, but, what sub / enclosure would you recommend that could maybe be hidden in the spare tire space? Im not looking for crazy amounts of bass, just looking for the system to sound decent. Thanks in advance. |
I would reccommend what I am going to do at some point(when i get the funds).
Im going to create a sub box that will fit in the spare tire and use either a 8" or slim 10" sub. There are a few options to place your amp, im still undecided on mine. If you have the time and the means, you might want to consider doing something like what listed below. http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/2...6k-beware.html http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/1...pare-tire.html |
