Firewall Run
 

I am working on a project where i need to run a small (8 guage or smaller) through the firewall. I know you audio guys do it ALL DAY LONG, so I figured this would be a good place to start. I would prefer to run through the driver side, if possible.
I watched the Audio install videos (http://vimeo.com/7507588 #5 specifically at 2:00) and that spot he ran the cable through is actually filled on my car (auto vs manual?).

Are there any other places? I was going to meet up with bigaudiofanat this weekend to see where he ran on the passenger side, but the driver would be much better. Anyone know of any? I through about running up through the shifter area, but with all the movement in there, figured that would be a bad idea. Currently I have the cable run around the firewall using the area between the body panels, but it is very visible and definitely not the best option. I have looked the car up and down and havn't found anything.

to be honest...it is too simple to run the power wire through the passenger side. the battery is on the passenger side anyway, and there is a grommet right there. you can easily poke a hole or unwrap the existing wire and push it in. this was probably the easiest car ive ever to run the power wire and ive worked on about 5 different cars. took me a few minutes.

if you need the wire to get to the drivers side you can just run it through the passenger side and under the dash to the drivers side, behind the climate control and in-dash stereo (which im assuming would be removed if you were installing an amp anyway)

Although posted in audio section, I'm not actually running any audio, so the battery isn't that important. When I finish up everything i'll post what the project is, but I'm more just looking from, say, center of the engine compartment. So to run center of engine compartment, to passenger side hole, back across the dash on the inside is quite a bit of extra wiring. Would be much easier if there were a hole on the driver side. We can all hope and dream right?

Otherwise I will just end up doing what you said, just trying to avoid running an extra 5ft+ of extra wire.

If you have a manual, you don't have or can't access that same grommet in the video. However, there is another one in the same spot on the passenger side. You just need to remove the battery, and use a sharp object or a long screwdriver (like guy above said to do) to poke through the firewall padding in the cabin. I also removed the grommet when I did this, and scored the grommet to start the cable feed thru it.

Yea, I am aware of the passenger side one, just looking for another driver side option.

I would recommend just using the one on the passenger side as suggested much safer and will save time just run the wire once inside the cabin to the drivers side if needed.
