calling out all audio exprets :0

Can you guys make a sticky with your favorite pieces of audio? For example put together your favorite system if you had to start from ground zero.

AMPS
SUBS
COMPONENTS
DECKS
CAPS

I think a lot of guys like me here would really really appreciate your thoughts so if you make a sticky you don't have to answer the same questions all the time? Just your favorite items for the average 370z driver, nothing competition grade. What do you say guys?

90 ST 12-21-2010 11:24 PM

I'll start, but some will say i'm bias.
AMPS-MTX TE series, Boston Acoustic, JL HD series
SUBS- MTX, JL, Focal
COMPONENTS- Focal, MTX, Boston Acoustic
DECKS- Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood
CAPS-Streetwires for all acc, Awesome distro cables and caps.
The brands for me are in the order i would use them if i started over and was not IN the industry.

bigaudiofanat 12-23-2010 02:40 PM

If you want to go high quality here are the brands to look at.

Amps Image Dynamics, Audison, Focal, Alpine, CDT

Speakers Image Dyanmics, Focal, Morel, Pioneer 5 "I think that is the models"
CDT

Head unit Alpine

Subs Image Dyanmics

For high quality amps for qualit look for a/b amps as they create more heat for the power but it is cleaner power.

My eventual build:

AMPS - JL HD 900/5
SUBS - JL 13TW5 (Wicked CAS Enclosure)
COMPONENTS - Alpine SPX-17PRO (love the adjustability of the xover). Second choice: Polk SR6500. Dream choice: Dynaudio 242 GT
DECKS - Alpine INA-W900BT
CAPS - None

I'm with bigaudiofanat for A/B amps, but this car's too small.

Check that: just found Audison A/B/D amp, the LRx 3.1k: 2 ch A/B and a mono Class D channel. Nice - but $$$.

Lol you guys are gonna hate my new setup! Hehehe

VIBE audio:
1 set of Space 6" 3 way
2 sets of Space 5" 3 way
1 set of Light AIR 5" 2 way
2 sets of 3D dome tweeter combos
2 space 12" woofers
2 Black AIR 10" woofers
1 Space stereo 1000w amp
2 Space Bass 1000w class D amps

Waiting for the car to free up so we can determine the rest of the pieces hehehe

bigaudiofanat 12-24-2010 07:26 PM

Never heard of any of those companies so hope they last which I sort of doubt.

They're all 'vibe audio' Was last distributed by Metra or Aamp, can't remember. Nothing special really, it was the more generic budget fillers for dealers.

6spdcoupe 12-24-2010 11:43 PM

Ok, I'll play ..

AMPS - TRU Technology, Zapco, Genesis, Celestra, HSS Fidelity, DLS

SUBS - DLS, Zapco (ESB), Dynaudio, Micro-Precision, Rainbow, Morel

COMPONENTS - Same as subs - Micro-Precision, Dynaudio, Rainbow, Morel, DLS, Zapco (ESB)

DECKS - Exotics or what I have laying around - Denon, McIntosh, Eclipse, Nakamichi. Current day offerings - for the 'bells and whistles' stuff - Kenwood Excelon. For the sheer listening pleasure - McIntosh.

CAPS - Gimmick. Trust a solid amplifier.

optiontrader 12-26-2010 01:37 AM

All nice - I've owned Eclipse, Denon, and Nak HU's. Too bad none of them (McIntosh included) makes double DINs (AFAIK). I don't think Denon makes car audio stuff now, right?

I'd like the option to get NAV in this car eventually.

Denon pulled out a few years ago, but discontinued units can still be sourced. I sold off a few of mine, but still hold onto my DCT-1 and Z1.

Nakamichi can be stacked as well as Eclipse Sound Monitor -

One of the nicest units you can find, if you can find em !

optiontrader 12-26-2010 12:18 PM

I love Nak - with their heritage and sound quality/no frills approach, I'm frankly surprised they're not doing better in the marketplace. I don't like bells and whistles in a flashy head unit - just want more $$$ sunk into the audio section.

Gimme back an analog volume control!

I agree completely, especially the one on my CD700 and CD700 II. Unfortunately for awhile reliability became and issue and to make matters worse their former US Dist JAM Industries/EriksonConsumer (located in Canada) was less than stellar to deal with on warranties. I still import in Nak on certain occasions, but tend to keep it to a minimal.

The quality of the product has gotten better over time and their top of the line stuff has really stepped up in it's SQ. Ztarga has it in his ride and it sounds fantastic!!! Some of the best speakers I heard at SEMA! He had the mid range product line and I got all their top shelf stuff... I.e. Their space line of products. They are reasonably priced similar to Polk an many other brands. This is a UK brand and not big here in the states.

I am familiar with it and stand by my original statement. It was not intended to be insulting, so my apologies if you took it that way. If it helps I feel the same way about the majority of the Polk lines as well.
