Aftermarket Speakers

I am installing new speakers (Polk MM6501) to an aftermarket radio (Kenwood) without the use of an amplifier.
The question is do I need to run new speaker wire in order to be able to use the crossovers supplied with the speakers?
Thanks

You should stock wire is very small and is not going to be in the right places to make full usage of it

I did on mine. I thought I was going to try and use the stock wires, but it was literally a whole lot easier just to run new wires. You won't regret it.

Did the speakers (Polk MM6501) sound ok without a amp? Which Kenwood HU do you have? Did you need spacers for the speaker mounted in the door panels?

I always try to leave the stock wiring unaltered if I can just so I have a way to bring the car back to stock easiliy if I decide to sell the car and keep the audio equipment. Its often easier to just run new wires to the speakers. The problem you may have with the stock wiring is there may be crossovers wired into it that may screw things up royal. For instance your tweeters may end up getting crossed at 8000 Hz instead of 4000 Hz because of the doubling factor of having two passive crossovers in series.

I've added six speakers to my Kenwood with no amp. Plenty of sound for me. I did run new wiring also.

Slightly off topic....but were you guys able to keep the steering wheel controls?

Yes. You have to buy an adapter. I tried both the PAC SWI-JACK and the Metra Access ASWC. The Metra is far-and-above a better unit. Much faster and does not have to have resistors wired to work.

If your trying to keep your controls and have a bose system it will not work neither will that I have tried.
