GPS Antenna Mount On Defroster Vent?
I had the idea of mounting the antenna for the GPS on my Pioneer on the defroster vent plate for the windshield. It's recessed lower than the dash and would stick up less. I'm not sure it's worth the trouble but has anyone ever taken it off? There are 2 circular covers on it with plenty of room near the ends. The covers look semi-transparent and I'm thinking they are photoelectric sensors for the auto lights, not sure if they are mounting clips too.
Does that defrost plate come out without taking that dash out? If it's a bitch I may just put it where everyone else does on the flat part near the tweeter. After searching this is the only post I found but it was never answered. http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...Z/DSC02050.jpg The vent area to the left of AK's. I'm guessing running the wire is harder too. |
I doubt it does, I think your asking for a lot of trouble and maybe even rattles.

I had my GPS antenna put in the rear under the carpet so its invisible. I havent had any issues with reception even on cloudy or rainy days.

Oh ya? I though it had to me line of sight or something. I suppose I could try it.
Why is everyone mounting it on the dash then.... |
Because it gives you a more accurate signal and speed as well but you can have it hidden.
