8-Speaker Sound System - Any Good?

Hi guys,

For those of you who have the 8-speaker system, is it decent sound quality? I'm interested to know your experiences with it. Does it have one subwoofer or two?

Also, with an ipod (I have the ipod touch) does the song information come up on the nissan screen when playing directly from the ipod?

I have test driven the Touring model recently which includes the Bose sound system. I took the time to look at the car. IMO, it sound nicer than the average sound system you would find, but it's not THAT much better. It has two subs... you can hear and feel it, but it's so soft, it would seem that it didn't have it.

Personally, I would probably invest on aftermarket ones instead.

Someone else would have to give their opinions with AUX input with iPod.

With that being said, one may be torn between base and Touring. The cabin feel of the Touring is that much nicer... for me, at least.

It's above average, but if audio is your thing then you will want an aftermarket unit. The Bose Auto Pilot technology works fairly well in the car. The nav option adds more to the how you can connect other devices to the system, and that appears to be worth it for someone who doesn't want the hassle of aftermarket. It's a car after all so how many audiophiles really claim a vehicle's interior as the ultimate sound reproduction space?

Many. actually

but i agree, i'm constanty analysing engine sound. It tells one so much.
with test pipes and pop intake. the car is not only quicker but has a total change of tone. Now thats Music!

I would say as an overall package, it is a nice sound system. In terms of just raw sound, its above average, but I've heard much better from aftermarket set ups. Something I did notice though is that the bose system drowns out the outside noise nicely. I really didn't know the car let so much noise in until I drove it with no music playing. It was day and night.

For iPod Touch, it should display the song information and be fully controllable with the Z's own buttons. It worls just fine with my iPhone, although when I plug it in to be used for music like that, it won't support the phone functions.

Ok, gotta chime in here. I have been driving around in a 350Z with after market stereo and speakers/ sub and it blows chunks compared to the Bose system in this 370. It's got a nice clean punchy bass. None of my passengers can stand it as loud as I like it. No distortion.

The Ipod controls and display are completely integrated into the nav, dash and steering wheel controls. Songs and functions are displayed on the nav. Same menu for Clasic IPod and iphone 3g/itouch. The cable comes in a bag with the manual, make sure they give it to you! I have never been one to spend a lot of money on car audio but I will tell you that right now, the car is my best venue for testing out a new cd or download. Let me know if anyone else has any other questions.

Oh and I have never had a blue tooth device work as flawlessly as this one. It scares me sometimes as I will make a call on my phone sitting in the parked car and then decide to start it up to turn on ac or take off before finishing the calll, all of a sudden, the call seemlessly transfers to the car's speaker phone. The same happens in reverse when turning the car off and I have NEVER DROPPED A CALL! One last thing. This car answer calls for you (you can turn that off if you want) tells the caller to wait for you to pick up.

I'm decently satisfied with the 8-speaker Bose system.. The bass is pretty acceptable.. I'd consider swapping the subs out for something with more power if I could.. needs more chest pounding with all the Trance/Electronic music I listen to... I also had to max out the Trebel to make it crisp.

A quality system should be zero'd out or centered.. Meaning the Bass/Trebel ought to be left at default but this system sounds like complete junk at centered settings.. Both bass and trebel are maxed or near max to come close to anything an aftermarket system should sound like. I have very sensitive hearing so it's not me trying to compensate for someone who's tone-deaf.

I'm kind of disappointed.. but it's not like I paid extra for it, if you have the Touring package, you have the 8-speaker Bose setup at no extra cost. Shrug, the more I listen to it, the more I kind of wish it sounded better. My stock Scion tC speaker system sounded better than this does (sans the bass).

Just a quick question.. Where is the second sub located..? I know there's on in the spare tyre well and in the 350Z's they used to behind the driver's seat but where is the second..? Haven't had a look for it either yet, so it might be obvious..

Thanks guys..

There's actually two 4 inch subs in the spare tire well. As well as a little amp inside of there. I just removed my factory Bose system and its pretty elaborate. Has 2 amps, a signal processor, bluetooth reciever, and some other box thing (maybe XM signal processing unit??). I've wondered tho, is this setup completely compatible with base models or Nismo models?? i.e. are the head unit and spreakers plug and play? Obviously, the bluetooth steering wheel controls wont cross over without a new steering wheel.

It all depends on what was put in the car and how it was installed. If someone installed boss or pyle speakers in a car it will in no way be better than anything more than a clock radio. If it was done right even on a budget it would run circles around the bose system.

OP

the bose system you are referring to as 8 speakers is actually worse than the base system that comes with the Z, the sub is pretty usless with having two 3 inch woofers they like to call subs. But without going into to much details here check out my write up on the system. IMO I would never ever get a bose system. Read over this thread.

The Bose system sounds good enough to me. Is it as good as something BAF would put in? Not even close but just like MP3 and CD, the MP3 won because ---wait for it---it's "Good Enough"!
Do CDs and MP3 sound the same (Not a high variable bitrate MP3 but your garden variety MP3) vs. any well recorded CD of the same song? Hell no, but who listens to CD's anymore?
It's like everyone has these high quality TV's and they hook their Netflix up to them and watch re-runs for hours...is it good as 1080? No, but "it's good enough", ha ha.
Besides, as someone else said so eloquently, I got the Bose with the Touring Package, so meh, it's in there.

my head unit upscales, cleans, and filters low Kbps mp3 files. Kenwood calls it a realizer haha http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/24/yse9epug.jpg
