I've always though of using capacitors for automotive voltage droop to be a lot like using oil additives in a worn out engine - it might mask some symptoms but it really doesn't do anything to fix the problem. If you want to thump, you have to have the power; get a bigger alternator. Besides, I wouldn't want a 3F cap in my car - those things can be very dangerous, even at 12-15V. |
There's a point of using it. People tend to think it will solve the ills of their under-capacity system but it doesn't. The best case is always the Alternator no doubt. I think that's why it gets a bad rap - using it for the wrong reason. Remember all Amplifiers employ capacitors in their system (digital ones are slightly different) but it's the same principal - stabilizing the voltage rail. Whether that translate to better sound is subject for debate. Employing one externally is no different. When properly designed and implemented, it does have merit.
As for dangers in a car, nothing is more dangerous than a tank full of gasoline underneath one...;) |
Capacitors are used in audio amps for
A: Bulk Caps (2200uF to 3300uF and up) Removing ripple from the high frequency switching supply that changes +12VDC to +/- up to 80VDC. (In parallel with high dissipation factor ceramics for the high frequency ripple). B. They are used for storage for low frequency impulse power/peak demand. See 1 above. C. They are used as AC coupling devices that block DC from stage to stage. D. They are used as "Decoupling" devices to clean DC voltage so that active amplifier components have a clean power supply. Scientifically I can't say that I support using large Farad value caps on the voltage rail of the +12V since the Battery can supply up to 350 Amps at cranking time on the car, so if the Alternator and the Battery can't handle the current load of the amplifier, then it sounds as if other have correctly recommended upgrading the charging/Alternator and the 12V reservoir/Battery. I'm all for the smart marketing of the Farad add on caps, someone is making money and that's good old fashioned Capitalism at it's finest. |
I wouldn't even waste my time trying to use a cap. They are proven to actually cause more harm than good over time. There are massive threads over at DIY mobile as well as caraudio having discussions on them. IMO if you need a cap it's time to do some electrical upgrades such as the BIG 3 and possibly a second battery. The stock system in the Z is able to handle a lot including most audio systems. One of my 3 year customers is running dual amps (5 channel audios and 2 channel focal) as well as a second battery with no issues.

Hello everybody! Have you ever heard of such a thing as portable power stations? Or have you heard about portable solar panels? No?! How can this be? This is one of the most promising developments of the year 2020. You can take it with you wherever you go, install and start producing energy for your purposes. It is very comfortable. I bought myself a couple of these and did not regret anything.
By the way, starting from May 20th, there is a giveaway activity on Aiper. The winner will get a portable power station - Aiper DISCOVER 300. How to attend? Click their website https://www.aiper.com/ |

Giving the benefit of the doubt :ugh2: It maybe he doesn't know that he's technically spamming since his history shows different engagements for questions his asked without posting hot links. I see another similar posts and OFF with his HEAD!! ;) THANKS for reporting :tiphat: Quote:

But I see from his post history you are correct. Might as well clean up these last few posts here. Maybe its some random malware on his machine lol |
