Axxes install

Ok, new stero install almost done. Tried the auto detect which according to their website will work, however I can only get the volume up and down to work on the steering wheel. Does anyone have one installed with full steering contols? If so, what's the trick? Their website said there were no updates to download for Nissan, let alone the 370.

BTW, what a difference adding an Alpine ixa305S, Alpine plug/play amp, and Polk db6501's.

For the 370Z you need to update the metra axxcess unit online

F1loco 08-01-2010 07:18 AM

Crap. Can I get the cable at Radio shack, or do I have to order on line?

NewYorkJon34 08-01-2010 07:47 AM

You could order it online, it's the metra USB-CAB

Also after constant testing, I have found the correct wiring for the metra kit. I have a kenwood headunit so I don't know if that makes a difference, but the correct wiring is:Grey/pink to blue (front) -> grey/blue to pink. Don't forget to Rep+

How did you connect the wires? Did you solder or just use clips?
I had a lot of trouble with the source and selection button with both the Pac and the Metra. I finally got a real good solder connection and it works flawlessly.

You may have a good connection, but you might have to do a manual programming of the unit. I manually programmed mine. If you watch the flashes, it should tell you whether it is detecting both connections. If you need the documents, let me know and I can send you a link.

Ya the auto detect is $hit as well, this unit needs to be manually programed.

Guess I will pull the unit this weekend and try to run a manual program b/f spending $50 on a cable to update it....I've really only got volume up/down, source, and select up/down on my steering control anyway....

Hey F1loco,

I had the same issues. I called their support and the guy asked me to use 120k ohm resistor during programming... since kenwood is bought by JVC blah blah

I used that and the volume up/down worked but nothing else so I decided to do the firmware update... did that yesterday and now i will have to reprogram using the resistors...

How did you get track / source to work?

Thanks,
jay

this is why i bought the PAC-PS this time and last time. axxess does not seem to work at first try where as the old modules (PAC/Peripheral) works just fine...

jayl 08-16-2010 01:32 PM

haha thats funny because I had the pac swi jack; and was told that axxess is much better so i bought that ... but now I have both!...

but i take it your PAC is not the swi jack?

kenchan 08-16-2010 01:44 PM

hahaha, yah, mine is for pioneer/sony for steering wheel buttons. i was about to get the axxess but read about people not being able to program so just went the old fashioned way. :p

jayl 08-16-2010 01:45 PM

off topic! sorry.

the pic in your avatar... is that a toy PG ? if so where did you get it ?

F1loco 08-16-2010 02:02 PM

Got to find time on a weekend to pull the HU out and get to the AXXES and try manual programming. Auto will only do the volume w/o any updates. I was hoping to just manually run through all the settings w/o the need of updating firmware...let me know how it goes with the updated software and if you have to still manually program or use the resistor...

jayl 08-16-2010 02:06 PM

if you are asking me about the update... I did it and lost the programming so I tried auto and manual none work... so will have to go get resistors to do the manual programming.... i just hope all controls work after that.. I am tempted to take it to a car audio place and have them do it ... but cant decide.
