you can pop your shifter housing and run your aux wire going to your middle compartment.

That's a thought, but currently, I have it essentially hidden, as in the pic above. Once it goes to the side of the central dash, you can't see it again, until it comes out on the right side, between the central divider and the passenger seat. I plug it into my iPhone, and stick the iPhone into the central cup holder, It fits perfectly, at an angle, within easy quick reach for ipod functions or to use the phone and/or to take it out.

If I was going to plug an ipod that was to always stay in the car, I would have ran the AUX cable to either of the two central storage bins.
