For those thinking of getting rid of spare tire

Well as most of us never know what might come our way. Tonight was no exception. After a great day at the beach my gf and I get in my car and start driving. Not more than 2 turns later I realized I had a flat. Pulled in put the spare on and was on my way.

What I am getting at is you should not omit your spare even if you have road side assistance. I was done in 5 minutes and on my way.

Just a thought.

I'm ditching my spare, but i'm replacing it with run-flats.

fairladyZ34 05-22-2010 12:25 AM

or if you get a flat, hope there are train tracks near by and blow all your tires and continue on the tracks hahahah

bullitt5897 05-22-2010 02:17 AM

woops too late!!! been there got rid of that. Sold my spare to a roadster owner.

Boosted Josh 05-22-2010 08:04 AM

Can you even fit a tire in the hatch if you have a box like the Zenclosures box?

I was thinking about that the other day when trying to figure out where to mount my amps.

I'm not sure that a flat rear would even fit in the car if you have a box in it.

billydsz 05-22-2010 12:39 PM

bigaudio I noticed you said your system was sq based so does that mean you didn't go with a subwoofer? I would like to upgrade without losing the spare, do you suggest no subwoofer? Or place it somewhere else? What did you do?

I somewhat agree but how about a can of Fix-A-Flat

SlikNik 05-22-2010 01:35 PM

Don't think I would would want to run without having a spare tire, I agree. You just never know.
Also the Zenclosure box doesn't effect having a spare and really isn't as large as you might think. It fits from the crossbrace to the back of the wheel wells.

Yes you can have a spare and get to it with a box installed no problem.

I do have a sub well will have one, there are differnet types of subs SQ and so forth I will be running a Image dynamics Q. You might ask why am I not going with JL, well over priced for one and in mine and others opinion not as good as ID or other subs out there for SQ. A system wihtout a sub is like missing out on a great movie without a sub you need bass just not a F ton og it like some people want.

Ya but fix a flat will not help with a blow out.

Auston 05-23-2010 12:39 AM

The spare does place some weight over the rear tires, which is a good thing

I have my spare still with my Zenclosures box. I cut the support board so I can easily access it if need be.

Any owner (or true enthusiast) of the 370Z and 370Z Roadster knows there is no spare tire in the Roadster except of course in Maryland where the state general assembly pass a law requiring all new automobiles be sold with a spare tire….at an additional cost! Just sayin

Boosted Josh 05-23-2010 09:04 AM

I wasn't talking about getting to the spare with the box in place I was talking about putting the flat tire in the hatch with the box.

The rear wheel with tire is ~26" in diameter and is almost 11'' wide. I didn't know if it would fit in the back.

Sparhax 05-23-2010 10:24 AM

I never want to see my baby with a spare on it. ever. If you start getting low then pull into a gas station and inflate the flat and limp to a tire store. I've got warranties on all my tires so I don't care if it destroys the tire. If you get a blow-out then that's what road side service is for.

On long trips there is nothing preventing you from putting the spare in the trunk area. 99.9% of my driving is city/suburb. Always a tire place within 5miles.

Of course everyone's situation is different. We can sit around and talk about the "what ifs" all day. I had a flat one day in a Toyota Avalon only to find out that my full size spare was also flat. $h*^ happens, deal with it :)

^^ I agree…….BTW this post was started by someone who owns an eight year old civic!!

Spare tire Sub-box

Here's an option to have a 13.5" sub in the back while retaining your spare.

Ya and I bought it about a year and a half ago. Your point?

JoeZ 05-23-2010 04:28 PM

I see the point you all are making but living here in Phoenix it isn't the same. Their are times when on a road trip their isn't a store for over an hr in either direction. I have full tire replacement and roadside service as well which is awesome until you cant get a signal on your phone. I would rather carry a spare to get me to a shop than sit in the middle of the dessert when its 118 degrees remembering how I saved a little weight. I would rather be prepared than react.

Sparhax 05-23-2010 06:24 PM

Yeah Joe, if I lived in the desert I'd have a full size spare and a 5 gallon drum of water lol.

JoeZ 05-24-2010 07:05 AM

:icon18: You are correct sir

Ok….you bought a used, eight year old civic…..how long do you think your tires are going to last? Maybe you should get 4 new tires for your “used” eight year old civic!

bigaudiofanat 05-24-2010 06:33 PM

If you think I had the original tires on after I bought the car thats wrong. About a year and a half I bought new tires.
