iPhone 3GS compatibility

Hi everybody,
I am seriously considering getting a Z. One of the features I really like is having the iPod control through the navigation head unit. I have an iPhone 3GS with the newest software, I think its up to 3.1.3 now, so I am hoping it's iPod capabilities can be used on the Z. I tried it out at the dealer, it found my songs list, and it played but the audio had static, it sounded awful. It could of been the cable (it wasn't a cable made by apple), or the usb port could of been loose. If we wiggled it around it would cut in and out too. Then after reconnecting it a few times, the car stopped recognizing the phone and gave some message, I don't quite remember what it said. Every time I plugged it in though, the phone charged. The first time it was plugged in, the phone gave the message that asked "would u like to go into airplane mode". I've looked up and down on this forum, and ive seen alot of people saying it doesn't work, and alot of people saying it works perfectly. So I am just looking for a definitive answer on whether or not the iPhone works through the usb port. Thanks everyone!

I use it through the Bluetooth and it works great no static.

I don't have nav but it definitely sounds like that cable is at fault.

Use A2DP over Bluetooth or get another USB cable.

So the consensus is that it does work? Do you get the song list, artist, title, album cover, etc. over bluetooth?

Mine says it unable to charge with the cable from Nissan. It plays the songs fine, just wish it would charge.
then again it's not the G3S, just the G3.

iPhone

I have the 3GS and haven't tried to play music over bluetooth (I didn't even think it was possible) but the phone pairs with the unit and I can make phone calls over bluetooth.

When I connect the cable to the USB port, it's pretty hit or miss. I always get the error message that says the accessory is not compatible and would I like to put it in airplane mode? Once I say no to that, about 50% of the time it will work, the other 50% it will just get stuck on reading USB Memory. If it does happen to work, and a phone call comes in over bluetooth it usually will not pick back up the device for music.

I am hoping it clears up with 4.0 software as it is supposed to provide proper ipod out functionality for the iphone.

How do you stream music over bluetooth with the iphone and nav unit?
