Thinking about pioneer

I'm thinking about getting this headunit:

Amazon.com: Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT 7-Inch Flagship In-Dash Navigation A/V Receiver with DVD Playback and Bluetooth: Electronics

But I'm lost when it comes to speakers and amplifiers. I would like to know if anyone has had any experience with Pioneer subs and speakers, and what would be other recommended brands. I have used the search function, but there are a variety of opinions on what the best setup would be. I would also like to use two subs in the back facing the two passenger seats.

bigaudiofanat 04-02-2010 06:23 PM

I would not recommend them for speakers amps or subs. People will stand by for there head units but as I have had bad luck with installs with there units I would personally not recommend them.

For amps speakers and subs there are many better names to spend your money on such as polk, alpine, and kenwood.

theDreamer 04-02-2010 06:31 PM

The Z1100BT is a very good headunit at a solid price, used it in person with a friends car and will be buying it myself soon.
On the other topics I would listen to others as I have not read up on amps in a long time.

jikhead 04-02-2010 07:05 PM

I'm using the Pioneer 10" Shallow sub and the TS-D1720C in my Z right now, and I think they sound great. I've also had Pioneer video headunits and speakers in my previous 2 vehicles with no complaints.

Thats a great head unit you wont be disappointed. When it comes to speakers, amps and subs I always set myself a budget and get the best I can within that budget. Dont spend $500 on speakers then run them with a $75 amp. If your not a diehard audiophile then Pioneer does have a couple of lines of speakers and subs that you would be happy with for the price just stay away from there lower end products. Of course there are other brands that are better but not everyone wants to spend $2000-$3000, so set a budget and work from there.

370z TT 04-02-2010 07:42 PM

What would be a good brand? Audiobahn, JL audio, or Crutchfield

k20z3 04-02-2010 07:44 PM

I've heard good about it so!

Actually I did some researching and Rockford fosgate seems like a good brand

Rockford Fosgate® - T1000-4

Rockford Fosgate® - T2D412

But again, I'm new to audio and I really don't have a set budget. I can spend about 5-7k, at least for now.

Crutchfield isn't a brand, just a reseller.

I have an Avic F90BT, alpine amp and infiniti speakers and am pretty happy, but I don't really like the functionality of the headunit compared to the avic-Z3 I had in my last car. There is a guy on the gfrenzy site selling a Z2 for 650. If you are interested, pm me for the contact info. It is by far the real top of the line Pioneer, and you can upgrade it to the latest Z3 software if you are computer literate.

370z TT 04-02-2010 10:58 PM

Thanks everyone for the info, I think I got my setup figured out. I'll post pictures up when I get everything and install it

On second though I might get the new Kenwood 9960...

The pioneer bashing is getting really old. You really think that alpine kenwood and polk makes better speakers than pioneer? Check the T/s parameters and frequency response before making uneducated statements. Pioneer is teh only company out of the ones you listed who design and engineer their own speakers still and dont use off the shelf chinese parts.
It honestly sounds like user error the problems you claim to have with pioneer units.

alvinmathew88 04-03-2010 04:10 PM

Here we go again!

bigaudiofanat 04-03-2010 04:15 PM

Na, I am not going to argue I know how they are and just gave my opinion.

JB-370z 04-03-2010 05:28 PM

They are awsome do it! I have the unit you want and I love it. Some units if you press on the bezel it will have some play and make squeeky noises but this unit is very solid and well built. There are no buttons that can break off they are intigrated in nicely. You will be sorry I promise. Dreamer has played around with my pioneer unit I think. I have owned 5 differnt nav units in my days and this one has no real compition compared to my others I have had in the past. However I cant speak for the current units that are out on the market but I do know when I went to try out other units this was by far my fav. Buy one homie

I agree…….Why would anyone take the advice from someone who drives an old Civic and has an old school single din Alpine car stereo? Pioneer sells great equipment and has received great reviews from Professionals!

Wow... really? He attacks a manufacturer so you attack him? I guess your portfolio is tied up in Pioneer stock......:shakes head:

WICKED_GRIN 04-03-2010 06:26 PM

^^ Actually I'm tied up in ford stock…..bought in when it was under $2

WICKED_GRIN 04-03-2010 06:31 PM

^^ and with the potential success with the new Mustang 5.0 and new Explorer….I wouldn’t be surprised if it hits $15 this fall!! Maybe you should jump in??

Same story with me and I'm holding until the new mustang comes out, I also bought Toyota when it was doing the recalls and its stock dipped, and their sales have been going up...I really didn't expect them to recover that fast.

370z TT 04-03-2010 07:40 PM

And on the pioneer headset, now it's really sketchy because I am stuck between the kenwood or the pioneer. I've heard good things about both of them

Xan 04-03-2010 08:09 PM

Repeating myself from another thread, there is a 200 dollar rebate on the Pioneer

Pioneer USA - Navi-Days Navigation Rebate

So that will work if I buy from Amazon (who is an authorized dealer)?
Damn...

You really can’t go wrong with Kenwood or Pioneer. Both are great double din head units. The operating system in the Pioneer can easily be hacked and some people prefer the Garmin over the Tom Tom….. the bottom line is the features you want. When you get the same person bashing on one company, it really does get old!

I thought the 200 dollar rebate ended already, but that plus the Z110 under 900 is a damn good deal.

Mike 04-04-2010 11:18 AM

also, if you get the Pioneer, check out AVIC411.com for all the hack info and other tips!

JB-370z 04-04-2010 05:50 PM

I love pioneer. Sorry if anyone has had bad luck with them in the past but the 110bt is one of the best if not the best nav unit on the market regardless of them being pioneer. All I am aying is if they did not have a good unit before; it now is a thing of the past and thats 100% all the way. One of my fav mods I have done to date, everyday I am learning something new about the unit. This is supposed to be a software update for it soon, cant wait to see what it brings.
