best 10 inch slimline

O.K. i listen to 75% rap , I listen to all kinds of music. Don't want to shake the roof off (been there done that) want good solid base. My amp is the jl 500/5. There is no budget !! just want to know what's best then i'll budget accordingly. If you are going to bash a particular brand please list why and experiences. Don't just hate on a brand because you can :tiphat:
now let me know !!!! Oh yea it will be going into the new wickedcas. box

If you are looking for some powerful bass I do not think you are going to be pleased with a slim line sub. They do not have a long throw like a normal sized sub. I would recommend a normal sized sub, but if you still want to go with a slim line than I know only of the JL.

You really need to expand your horizons, Most all manufacturers are heading towards slim line subs, Mounting depth and space issues are common in newer vehicles. Memphis, diamond, critical mass, pioneer, kicker, RE and the list goes on all amke shallow subs. Ive heard a few of them and was impressed with the diamond and memphis. OP take my word when I say the SI BM linked below is the most cutting edge shallow mount out, It is more than capable of serious output and SQ. Its only available in 12 but Id reccomend that for your applicataion anyway.
Stereo Integrity | SI BM mkIII

Thought 12 would be a bit much for the z. I will look into 12's v.s. 10's.

speedfreak28 03-16-2010 12:02 AM

I think a 12 will be perfect, the output is less than a full sized enclosure but should be what you are looking for. and The SI BM has 14mm of xmas, a little less than a 12w6, plenty of excursion

ED makes great slim line. Yeah, JL isn't the only brand.

sig11 03-16-2010 09:32 AM

I'm going to trust Nazar and go with the 10" Kenwood he's got. I've been without a sub for so long that anything will sound great to me I'll bet. :)

sig11 03-16-2010 10:37 AM

tbonesteak 03-17-2010 01:34 AM

I wouldnt mess with a flat 10 from any brand. You will dissapointed and anything less than a 13Tw5 in that enclosure would be a compromise. I have audioned numerous flat subs and I was not impressed except for the JL 13TW5. It is the only flat sub I have heard that sounds and performs like a convential type subwoofer. Yes I know they cost a lot but if your going that route your just gonna have to pony up the dough. Your 500/5 will power it just fine. The fact that this sub has a 6" voice coil gives it amazing cone control and power handling.

You may want to check the "JL Stealth Box" thread as I posted in detail along with the plans and measurements for my boundary loaded enclosure with this sub. Its truley impressive with its perfect balance of SPL and SQ with an emphasis on SQ. My car will be competing in IASCA this summer in an SQ competition as I have been sponsored by Car Toys.

I listee mostly to rock and some classical music. I play CD and DVD audio disks (Kenwood HU). In your experience, is the JL Audio 13.5" sub easy to tune to this music? Is it best to control the sub with an Audio Control unit or __?

2fast4thelaw 05-04-2010 09:15 PM

X-Max is not everything! I have compared subs with moderate x-max vs massive x-max and a sub with a large x-max does not necessarily guarantee better performance.

shabarivas 05-04-2010 09:39 PM

wait... box is set and you are not sure of the size??? is it sealed? Man that's going to sound like crap... you better re-design your boxes volume based on your sub / wattage and all that...

2fast4thelaw 05-04-2010 09:48 PM

Box and EQ are 50% of the equation.

I built a custom fiber enclosure for a Pioneer TS-SW2501S4 and have been pleasantly surprised. I've owned JL, MB Quart, and Polk subs before and have to say this baby is almost on par in terms of range/rolloff. The output is considerably less, but that may be because I'm running a 10" at 4ohms/250 watts instead of a 12" at 2ohms/500 watts.

I looked at JL, but couldn't find a model at the price point I wanted. I got my Pioneer new for $90 shipped from ebay.

This is so true. I had a 12" MB Quart (RWE304 ?) in a 1.2 cubic foot enclosure and built a fiberglass enclosure that ended up much smaller (~.7). The difference was night and day. The rolloff was terrible and the sub was missing a ton of low end frequencies that were present before.

Yep the wicked cas. spare tire sub enclosure. Now what's good in 10" that will be pushed by the jl 500/5! thanks for the input.
Selling the box is not an option , getting new amp is not an option , selling car is not an option !!! what is the best fit for my set up.
