So as I've said in another thread, with BigA being busy with the 7 series and me feeling the need to get the equipment out of my living room, I gave some guys in Annapolis a shot at installing my equipment. I traded the 12" JL for 2 8" Kicker 10CVT84 Shallow subs.

Decided to forgo the rearview camera cause honestly, how often would I use it. I put that money toward a custom built enclosure. Everything looks awesome, installers had a bodyshop match the paint exactly. The sound is extraordinarily clean. So clean in fact that I can really tell the difference between music being streamed via BT, music ripped to my IPOD from burned cds, music directly from a purchased cd and music from my Ipod purchased through Itunes. (gonna put a huge whole in my library of things I'll listen to in the car).

Originally I was set on a hidden box, but I figured I'm not too old for something cool so I went a little more 'fancy'. IMO it's pretty sick if it's ur thing.

Anyway, I highly recommend these guys at 151 Motorsports in Annapolis. Took a little longer than I had anticipated, but he wanted to make sure everything was perfect. The owner told me he'd send pictures of the process when he got an opportunity so I'll post em when I get em so you can try it yourself or maybe go see the guy and have him do one for you.

Thanks for checkin it out. (pics are from my droid and the sun was major, so forgive me)

looks realy nice, would love to see the pics of custom enclosure during installation.

Definitely gonna post all of the 'in progress' pics when I get em, I haven't gotten a chance to really look at them either so I'm curious myself.

As far as the 2 8" v 12" comparo, I guess they don't 'hit as hard'. The sound is crisp, to me it's more like a home theater sound than any car with a big sub that I've sat in. Even though the one sub is directly behind my seat I don't get that heart rattle I've felt in cars with massive subs (which is okay cause I'd always compared that feeling to an anxiety attack) .

This kid is serious man, only 22 years old, had a serious car audio and video shop and extended out to total car modification. He's really got his stuff together, very glad I met him.

Don't you love it when you can find someone to do work that really loves what they're doing? Very nice setup.

labk888 04-12-2010 03:10 PM

Wow, that looks sweet? How much did the custom install cost? How much weight did this add?

I'm envious for one, for a young guy to have a business doing what he loves, if we could all be so lucky. And thanks

Haven't gotten my invoice yet to tell you exactly what the price was for the box in particular. He purchased the subs for me so that was included in the price, I paid just under $1350 to have everything installed, HU, Components, Amp, box to be built and it sent to a body shop to be custom painted.

I'm a 'show over go guy', couldn't tell you the weight as it's of no consequence to me, I'll ask him what he thinks it weighs though. And thanks I will share the positive comments with the installer.

Wow, you got a good deal! Your install is definitly unique.

Without the invoice I can't tell you for sure... as long as you don't quote me, I'll say that it was $150 from what I can remember from briefly looking at the invoice a few weeks ago.

That custom box looks really nice. Did you have to move your seats forward much for it to fit? I looked at how my seats are positioned right now and there doesn't seem to be nearly enough room for a box like you've got (without moving the seats up so much that I'd be uncomfortable).

Funny you ask that Spin... If you're any taller than me, I'm 5'8, the box as it's designed now is going to be a problem. Even for me, I am in a pretty aggressive driving position with little to no room to adjust. After having to drive last week while I wasn't feeling very well and just wanted to lean back and cruise I realized that there are gonna have to be some adjustments, so those are in the works, he's gonna build a new box with an eye on maximizing seat room.

None of this is the builders fault, he went off of my typical driving position we just didn't take into consideration passengers outside of my wife (she's 5'2 so she's got room for days) and I'm sure we all can understand my not considering anyone else driving my car. He's being gracious enough do another one and since I'm fine with it in almost every instance, I told him that I wasn't in any rush.

So there you go Spin, it's perfect looking and sounding but it's a solid B in terms of comfort for me, and that grade would drop for a passenger over 6ft and a driver over 5'8. Maybe if we both make it out for Z's and coffee sometime you can check it out for yourself.

that looks really nice man!

cdawg410, looks fantastic man! :tup:The sub/amp rack is beautiful. I also have the Dnx6140 and love it. It's been really good. My only suggestion would be to carry a long cloth in the trunk or glove box. This way, you can cover the sub/amp if you park your Z in not so great neighborhood.

My thoughts exactly.. I am in awe of this work! :yum::yum::yum: love it love it love it! wish i could have something like this done but being 6ft tall I would be cramped.
