Kenwood head unit - steering wheel controls

Vehicle: 14' 370z Sport (non-bose, non-nav)

Stereo to install: Kenwood DNX995s

Needing some answers from someone who has installed this head unit, or similar. Yes I've been all over the forums, Youtube, and product manuals and seem to come up with mixed results.

I bought the Axxess ASWC-1 module as recommended by Crutchfield to retain steering wheel controls. (side note, this module did not come with the programming buttons or lights as described or in videos, and seems to be self-programming)

Questions:

The Kenwood DNX995s wiring harness comes with a wire labeled "steering wheel remote input". Can this be used directly with my car's stereo harness without the Axxess module?

If not, can someone give clear instructions or a diagram on how to wire in the Access module?

Yessir I have.

The ASWC-1 manual for the 370z says to connect the ASWC-1 red wire to the "accessory power". Is this not necessary? Not shown in video? Which "accessory power" wire is this referring to, the red wire coming from the car harness?

And should I connect ASWC-1 black wire to black coming from the car harness?

Which leads from the ASWC-1 connect to the stereo itself?

Mine was a 2017 so the wire colors were different. It's been so long I don't remember any of that. You can find "bigaudiofan" email information in his signature on his posts in this forum. I'd contact him, he is a great help.

check attached diagram on how I did it (JVC head unit). I added pins 6 ,15 and 16 to the Metra 70-7553 to avoid hacking into the cars harness.

Awesome! This is exactly how I was going to attempt to connect. All of your steering wheel controls work with this setup? Source, track change, and volume?

Everything is wired up as per the diagram, I am still waiting for my faceplate to arrive to install everything Amazon is dragging it's feet to deliver the damned thing. Ordered May 12th and still showing to arrive June 12th . Has not shipped yet

I gotcha, so you have not tested it yet?

What stock stereo do you have? Pretty sure mine is the same size as the double-din already, hopefully won't need a faceplate...

Mine is a 2011 with Bose no Nav. I need the faceplate and don't want to open up in the car anything until I can swap it all out. I think Amazon are just waiting me out since I am not a prime member with them. I should have ordered the Scotche from Crutchfield, instead of the Metra I ordered from Amazon. Now Crutchfield shows out of stock

After waiting for 1 month Amazon sends and e-mail today saying that part is now not available until early July. :ugh2: Cancelled the order and got one coming from Crutchfield who now has it in stock. Been waiting for 1 month for this piece. I should have just bypassed Amazon all together

Sorry I didn't explain the power wires I thought they would be self explanatory. The red wire will go to the same red wire as your metra adapter harness and radio. The black wire will go to ground.

Well I got everything connected today. Connected exactly how you described, but everything works except the steering wheel controls. Grey/blue > blue, Grey/red > pink, Black > chassis ground, Red > red pwr from harness.

Also connected the brown wire to the SWC wire from the Kenwood harness as the manual requested, was that a mistake?

This ASWC-1 module does not have lights or buttons, it seems to be an updated model designed to recognize your stereo?

Bit frustrated now, more work ahead I suppose...

All aswc modules or at least real ones have lights are you sure that's what you have?

I got everything done today, all wired up as per diagram I posted. The only mistake I did is that I had the bluetooth module disconnected in the trunk while trying to get ASWC-1 to work and it would never recognize/see the car. After looking at wiring diagram from the shop manual, I realized that it needed to be bypassed with jumpers or plugged in for the whole thing to work. Plugging it back in, all worked OK
. Still have to bypass the bluetooth module but that can wait for another time
