Does your Z stink now?

It's already subsiding. I left the hatch open for several hours while the mold was curing to keep it ventilated.. and any time I am working in the garage I'll walk over and open the windows and hatch to continue letting it air out. I will probably still smell it faintly for a while but it will go away eventually.

Popped the top off the table and it came out great!

Will just need a light coat of filler to smooth out the tape lines before upholstery.

Here it is all marked up for trimming... I didn't try to coordinate the curves on the top and bottom since it would be impossible to get perfect... I figure a little twist in that side will give it some flair and make the glass stiffer.

Tonight I'll get it all trimmed up and also add some glass to the other side of the baffle and also add to the larger flat spot in the top as it has a little flex in it. Hopefully tomorrow or Monday I can start closing it in!

David Hasselhoff would approve.

Do you ever do the Bondo milkshake on your fiberglass interior?

SouthArk370Z 12-30-2017 04:28 PM

Interesting project. Sub'd.

Take half Bondo and half fiberglass resin mixed until it's the consistency of a milkshake. Then add a little hardener and slosh it around in the interior of your enclosure to seal up any little pin holes, smooth it out and to give it a little more structural rigidity.

Sounds effective! I wonder if it would add much weight. I usually just fill the enclosure with water to check for leaks.

Starting to come together, look'n good.

Didn't seem to add much to mine.

Right on... I may give it a shot! Thanks for the tip

I added some layers to the weak spot and more around the baffle on that side... I cut the handle off of a small brush and had to reach in do it blindly... It didn't turn out that great as I can see a lot of air bubbles though the other side but hopefully it will provide enough support. Not much to see really so I didn't bother snapping a picture.

Didn't get around to any trimming today...perhaps tomorrow!

Jayhovah 12-31-2017 12:49 PM

Trimmed and ground away the excess...

http://www.the370z.com/members/jayho...trimming-1.jpg

Started with the jig saw on the open end since its easier to cut smooth lines and makes much less dust..

http://www.the370z.com/members/jayho...trimming-2.jpg

Then moved on to the dremel with cutoff wheel..

http://www.the370z.com/members/jayho...immed-up-1.jpg

http://www.the370z.com/members/jayho...immed-up-2.jpg

Trimmed up with some light sanding..

http://www.the370z.com/members/jayho...sticks-mat.jpg

Experimenting here to see if resin will stick to this IKEA cutting mat.. it's just about the right size and stiffness to help me mold the last side. I tried taping it up first but the tape wrinkles as it curves so hopefully I can keep it bare.
