Bestbuy Headunit Install

Hey,

About to pull the plug and order this Pioneer AVH-X4800BS headunit. Has anyone have any problems with this specific unit? Noticed alot of members having electronics issues after installation.

Anyone have experience with bestbuy "greeksquad" headunit installation? Thinking about gettting mine done there.

I wouldn't let a big box retail guy install an air freshener into a car I cared about.

How much does it normally cost to get it installed at a shop?

I agree, but the only reason why i asked was because my friend recently got his headunit installed there and he has no issues

I resent this

I once purchased and had a hu installed at a big box store and thought they did a good job until years later when I installed a 2 din myself and opened up the dash to find they they had butchered the console on the inside.

As an installer at Best Buy, I can confidently tell you it entirely depends on the installer at the store. There are maybe three installers in my entire district that I'd actually trust working on my car and they're the same. The good installers are the ones that actually love what they're doing.

I actually thought of you as I posted this, I wasn't taking a shot at you personally. But I've seen too many hackjobs to count come out of Best Buy, etc. There's just not enough training and employee turnover is too high.

Fair enough. Like I said there are maybe three installers in my entire district that I'd trust to work on my car. People who get stuff done where I work know the quality of my work so I've worked on Porsches, Vipers, older Ferraris, 1000hp Camaros

I would recommend not getting in a hurry for the install. See if you can go into the install shop and talk to the installer(s). I learned a lot from the Best Buy guy that I spoke with years ago.

Of course, by me learning from him, I did it myself and he didn't make any money, but I would have trusted him.

Over the years I have spoken with 2 different installers where the salesman were idjuts, but the installers were very into what they were doing.
Like anything else these days, it can be a crap shoot, but if you spend some time observing, you can usually figure out the quality.

Fact: People that don't give a crap about their job, NEVER do a good job.

I should add that it wasn't a Best Buy that butchered my dash so I can't comment on the quality of their work.
