Subwoofer Vs Speaker Upgrade

Hey,

I've had enough. I can't stand the base stereo system anymore. I'm on a very tight budget so i was wondering which option might be the better upgrade to improve my audio.

Should I get a single 12" Subwoofer or speakers
Budget = $500

Thanks,
Brian

You should start with a headunit, if you haven't already upgraded.

:iagree: Larger amp in headunit should improve sound quality in speakers.

So i'm doing mine in stages, planned so as they do not make me replace the previous upgrade. I am not going show quality, just good clean sound.

Step 1 was to sound proof with dynamat and noico mat
Easier to get clean sound with less "noise" , and even with no music it helps as its
my daily driver

Step 2 kicker speakers in the doors , they are efficient but will handle max power I will add
later.

Step 3 self powered sub. Picked infinity it'll handle high or low level input i'm running both
types of cabling so head unit and amp upgrade require no rerun of wires.

Step 4 will be headunit/amp waiting till I can get exactly what I want.. all bells and whistles.

So far the sound deadening and kicker speakers have made huge difference on base unit. I will say I do not listen to radio or cd.. I only use auxiliary in to stream music.

Just my opinions , I'll see how i feel when finished .

I'd also agree with getting a better head unit. As long as you don't spend too much on the headunit, that still leaves you plenty of room to pick up some decent woofers and stay well under your budget of $500. In fact, you may even be able to squeeze in a self-powered sub or some tweeters.

If you want a passive sub, I think you'd pretty much end up blowing your whole budget on getting a decent sub, enclosure, and amp.

Okay. Thanks! I was looking at Pioneer GM-D9601 (AMP) Rockford Fosgate P2D2-12
(SUB) along with zenclosure box. But since everyone says to get a new headunit I'll go in that direction. Which headunit do you recommend? All the ones I'm seeing are over $400+. I don't care for tech features such as bluetooth, navi, or backup camera.

Noticed that Sony CDX-G3205UV is cheap and has good reviews. I'm using crutchfield(.)com to find audio parts, not sure if this is a good site or if anyone could recommend a better site.

Stages as stated above is the best way of going about things. I actually has some equipment laying around if you're on a tight budget I could sell. I even have a z owner driving down from NY this weekend for a car detail if you would like to beat the shipping.

I'd recommend head unit first, then speakers, then sub. Then if you need more amp the speakers.
