Sub in trunk + wood + air setup... How would I approach this?
 

As the title states, I've been thinking about upgrading my audio all around (non-bose base model Z) and putting a 10" or 12" sub in the trunk facing upwards where the spare would normally go. I love nice trunk setups, and I don't want this Z to be much different from the nicer trunk setups I see at car shows--especially considering the "trunk" is in the same cabin as the driver and passenger and is seen very easily.

Anyways, the gist of this is I want a 10"/12" sub (can't decide) in the middle facing upwards, a wood laminate or something instead of the carpeted mat, and a nice looking air compressor and all of that on this theoretical build. My question is like... what order do I do all of that stuff in? Do you I put the wood in, then get the sub, THEN the compressor? I feel like once the sub/compressor is in, I won't really be able to add that hardwood/laminate floor in there. I have no idea how that kind of stuff goes, and there's a strong possibility this won't ever happen, but I'm just kind of entertaining the idea a little bit for now.

If you have any other suggestions, feel free to let me know!! I felt that with the sub where the spare goes, I could bend little 1/4" aluminum bars or something and make a rail that goes over the sub so I can still use at least 75% of my trunk if I have to. Seriously though, if you have any better ideas, I'd love to hear them! :)

Ok, whats the air compressor for?

Well, basically, it's how air suspension works. Here's a picture I found on google of a similar setup to what I want, but it obviously isn't a Z haha

The only bad part about "theoretical" builds is that you don't have any actual parts on hand to measure... which is probably the most important part of an install. A sub + enclosure, and an air setup (depending on what you want will have a 3-5 gal tank + 1 or 2 compressors and all the associated hardware) takes up a lot of space in a car with not much of it.

My air setup fits in the small area behind the seats, at the front of the hatch. But, I only run a 3 gal tank, and a single 480C compressor since the air is limited to the front axle. If you're doing all 4 wheels this tank wouldn't be adequate IMHO. For a sub/enclosure, since you're wanting an upward firing I'd look into the Wicked CAS spare tire boxes. Depending on your model they can fit either a 10 or 13-in sub, so not too far from what you originally wanted. For the wood flooring, I'd do that last once you have everything in place. Use the trunk carpet to make a template with cardboard, cut the wood, test fit for adjustments, cut again if necessary, laminate it, install. Done.... but this is if you wanted most things hidden. If you want everything out in the open then you'd probably want to do the wood earlier in the process.

Yeah, I kind of want everything "out," so I guess it would make sense to do the wood sooner than later... But, I'd hate for it to get scratched from installing parts. I guess I'd just have to be super careful!

Or, what I could theoretically do, is make some sort of like... trap door system, so that I could kind of take out a big section of the flooring in without ruining the floor (like the OEM spare tire/parts cover under the carpet)
