Tweeter Replacement?

Anyone done this? Do the tweeter dash covers just pop off?

Is yours not working? Or upgrade?

This has something potentially useful...

Yes they pop right off just be careful not to scratch the covers or dash. I recommend if you are going to upgrade the tweeters that you also upgrade the woofers. Not only will this make it sound balanced but the stock crossover is not going to really help your aftermarket tweeters. Take a look around the install threads here they will usually show you the new tweeters mounted. The thread hear will have some pictured. Also mentioned above that Cali install has a lot of pictures showing the old and new tweeters.

Just pry up on the corner towards the rear of the car. When you unplug the factory tweeter the crossover will still be attached to the tweeter, and the wire that is left behind is basicly direct leads off the stereo.

Watch my videos, they should help you with many questions you may have including the tweeters.

The base/stock tweeters work fine. I just thought if it were simple enough, I would swap them out for possibly better ones. Anyone know who makes an exact replacement fit?

bigaudiofanat 11-19-2009 03:57 PM

No one makes exact replacement you will have to either make a bracket or cut the old one out of it's bracket and put the new one in. Any 1 inch tweeter will do. But as I said I would upgrade the woofer and tweeter as a pair you would definitely get better audio that way.

Yea like BAF says, definitely get a set of components and replace both at the same time. Hell even a nice set of co-axial 2-ways in the doors and just disconnecting the factory tweeter would be better than upgrading the tweeter only IMO.

bigaudiofanat 11-19-2009 04:43 PM

I would not downgrade from components to coaxial's much better imaging with a set of components.

Sigur 11-19-2009 06:30 PM

I didn't recommend co-axials. I'm just saying that would be better than factory woofer with some after-market tweeter. If you were real serious about imaging you wouldn't be putting the tweeter in the dash 2 feet away from the mids anyways. There's nothing wrong with the imaging of co-ax other than the place people put them is usually down by your feet in the doors.
