My 6140, Focal, Image Dynamics, Alpine install
First off thanks to everyone who helped me out with questions on equipment selection and install. Appreciate everyone's help! So here's what I went with.
Kenwood DNX6140 Alpine PDX4.100 Focal Access 165A1 Image Dynamics 12" IDQ Sub Zenclosures eBay Camera Haven't listened too much with the new setup but so far sounds great!!! It's nice to have a nice sound system, Bluetooth, and rear view camera again. Since there's several threads on how to install a HU I just have want to post up a few pics of things that I didn't notice was posted before. http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12244-2/IMG_0694.JPG http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12220-2/IMG_0695.JPG http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12226-2/IMG_0700.JPG i decided to mount my mic in the middle to help avoid wind noise with the windows down. http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12223-2/IMG_0699.JPG i ran the power line through the rubber grommet that is next to the battery. placed the fuse box on top of the battery underneath the tray. fits great! http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12214-2/IMG_0692.JPG ran all the wires from the HU to the rear down the middle next to existing lines. http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12211-2/IMG_0691.JPG fabbed up tweeter mounts from 1/4" plastic my friend had. http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12205-2/IMG_0687.JPG mounted the crossover behind the kick panel cover. http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12208-2/IMG_0688.JPG zenclosures spacers worked great! one side that's pre-trimmed goes towards the front of the car. http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12202-2/IMG_0686.JPG to install new speaker wire you have to remove the door connections on the body of the car. to do that you press down on the little tab on the side. (where my thumb is pointing) http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12187-2/IMG_0681.JPG then you just pull down the lever. need to close the door slightly to pull down the lever all the way and it'll pop out! http://teejnut.com/gallery2/d/12190-2/IMG_0682.JPG after you pop it out then you pop out the white piece inside the car. pull the bottom out and it'll come out. drill a hole on the empty side (mine is non-bose) and then run the speaker wire through there and reinstall. reinstall the white piece by putting the top in first and the bottom will snap in easily. to reinstall the gray lever just pull the lever all the way down and push it in then pull the lever up. no pic, but i put the amp underneath the passenger seat. the pdx 4.100 is pretty small so it fits well down there. |
nice work. great choice on components, Is the FOCAL working for you? I found them a little too bright but thats just me but love the ID subs and PDX AMPS. Is that the ID MAX?, Hows that working with the Zenclosure?

Whats the specs on the zenclosure? cubit feet/airspace?
We have a customer that wants a box but doesn't want a custom made fiberglass. I want to make sure it's the correct CF specs for the subs he wants:tup: |

VERY nice. I have the same Nav unit. No problems yet. The sub box looks great. Thanks for sharing

Great pics, easy-to-follow detail. Two thumbs up! :tiphat:

Nice job, how good did it feel to get the speaker wire run through the doors completed.
Easy, but yet sooooooooo nice when it was done. I was grinning from ear to ear |
Sweet! Nice clean job with the install. Give the Focals a month or two to break in and they will mellow out. I am glad everything is working out, you have a very well matched sound system without breaking the bank!

Looks good man. How do you like the ID sub? I see that Z enclosure figured out that trimming that side of the spacer will allow people to use them over top of the existing spacer. Glad they took the advice.

About 40% less output and impact than the 12.

Ya also the 10 will not be able to repoduce as low as the 12 would. But I say unless you are going to be listening to rap you only need a 10. To me it seems a tad bit tighter.
