Running new speaker wiring. Help!

I'm working on trying to run new speaker wire for my setup. I'm having trouble trying to remove the gray plastic thing that is on the body. Any tips/suggestions?

I got this tip from "Division" but I can't pull down on the gray hinged tab. I removed the rubber grommet on the door side but having trouble with this part. When I push the gray hinged tab down it doesn't move, how do I take this off?

The door connectors are easily removed (pull down the gray hinged tab, and close the door slightly to pop the connector off). On the Base model (sans Bose), the connector on the door side has an opening to run the speaker wire. The connector on the body side will need to be trimmed out, to allow the wires to pass through. It takes about 30 seconds with an exacto knife to make this happen. Much better than using the stock wires.

Oh yeah I have a base non-Bose system.

You may have don things out of order- if you're already snapped the connector out of the slot on the car, pulling down on the gray lever may be difficult. The connector should be left in place, then pull the lever down until it hits the door. Close the door slightly and remove the door side female connector. Once that is done, you can remove the male connector (inside of the car) by reaching up and snapping it out.

Hope this helps.

Yea watch SlikNik's video, that's probably better than any explanation. There is a little catch you have to push before the lever will move also, that could be on the back side, depending on which door you are working on.

I got it! Thanks for the video SlikNik. Pretty easy once I realized gray lever needs to pulled out and down. Initially I thought you just push it down. After watching the video I just took a long flat head screw driver and pried it out and down.

Thanks everyone!

Good tip Sigur, the drivers side is easier with the release tab facing you but the passenger side is facing the front of the car and a bit trickier

Yeah I saw that catch. Will post a pic of it later to make it easier for people. Install was tough, I didn't realize you have to fully push down the lever and then push it in and pull the lever up.

Yea its kind of a pain until you've done it a time or two yourself then you are like ahh OK!

yep. the first one took forever. the second one was easy. also for the female connector the upper goes in first and the bottom snaps in.

here are some pics... and tips for others in the future

first you have to push the little tab on the side in as seen here next to my thumb.

after you do that you can pull down the lever like this. you'll need to close the door partially to pull down the lever. once the lever gets pulled down it'll pop out.

after this is out you can pull out the female side from the inside of the car by sticking your hand in where the kick panel cover use to be. to remove this pull from the bottom. and then on a non-bose system you can drill a hole through one of the sections thats not used to run the speaker wire. to install just put the female section back in... top first and the bottom will snap in.

then for the gray lever piece, pull the lever all the way down and push it in and then push the lever up to lock it back in place.

and another tip is use a coat hanger or something similar to run the speaker wire through the rubber hose, makes it easy!
