Custom trunk for the 370Z
5 Attachment(s)
Here is my custom trunk i jist finiahed building. Turnaround- 1 week.
Intro: It's crazy how much you can get done with time on your side, patience, and a little knowledge to feed the brain. I started to follow through with this idea to build a custom trunk floor for my sub and add extra components and tweeters to the rear last Friday (7/31). One week later, with a lot of hard work and determination, the project is about 90% complete. What's left: I now just need to spray foam and dynamat parts of the trunk for added insulation and sound dampening, a new 10" sub, a mono amp, a dedicated battery (optima yellow top), capacitor, and a wiring kit to complete the installation. I wanted to keep this custom build clean. Of course there are some slight imperfections but i always learn from my mistakes and will perfect my craft. Thanks to @harringtonkevin for the initial help in organizing the maze of wiring i once had. Wiring the third time around was truly a charm FEEL FREE TO CHECK OUT MY CUSTOM TABLET INTEGRATION BUILD HERE : http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/1...ing-cubby.html Parts:(complete list to come soon) - The wood is oak plywood. - Leather upholstery vinyl. Looks great!
Do you still have the spare in there? |
So is there a box or just a baffle...?

My only regret is not having the amp recessed..ugh..I'm itching for a redo lol

Looks good! I'm actually doing a full custom trunk right now. All the panels are being replaced with fiberglass, and 2 12" subs. I wanted to go with something more similar to your design, but I know I'll toss something back there and puncture the sub, even with a grill.

I custom made two panels that fold together to include my amps and sub, but I may be evolving this look in the future. I will include some night pictures soon.

Right on! Regarding the tweeters: my POLK MMs provided plenty of sound reflected at the factory dash mounts so no complaints there. The components though do not provide enough bass. Tweeters: Even though the tweeters at the factory dash mounts sound great, I added two additional tweeters (POLK DB) positioned at the center of the rear strut tower brace- it gives a nice balance in sound. (see pic) As for sub, for now I am sticking with my Kenwood typhoon 10" sub. I will replace to a 12" shallow mount JL later. I am receiving my MB Qart 1500.1 mono amp (West coast customs Edition) and Kicker 40CS654 bass drivers tomorrow. Then the wiring begins! Hope to have sound by the end of Wednesday.:happydance: Ps. Update 9/4/15
2 Attachment(s)
I am happy to report that i am done with my audio/video project.
Decided to go with an alpine MRV-F300 and ditch my Jl audio (blown channel). My momo amp (or "sub amp") is an MB Quart 1500.1 amp. For a sub, i went with digital design audio- i am very much impressed by this sub. The quaility of the build is top notch. Checkout ddaudio or come check it out in my trunk for an in person review bc w.e. i post in words will not do it justice. Assisted with a Rockville 2 farad capacitor. Leds are wired to subs and bass drivers and turn on when via bass hit. So far, the sound is great without tunning frequencies, etc. Check out the latest pics. Youtube vid of the leds coming soon! If anyone is interested in this setup or a variation of it PM me. |
