For a change... I put in a Clarion nav unit...

Seems like most of you guys went with the Kenwoods, but I wanted a unit with a mostly empty face. I liked the look of this one, and took a shot.
Clarion NZ509

I'm still waiting on a part for the sat radio, and got the back-up camera today so I'll be installing that stuff shortly.
Sorry for the flash... my wife's crappy little camera wouldn't focus without it.

Thanks to Matt and the other guys who have posted DIY info... it was VERY helpful.

kenchan 10-19-2009 09:43 PM

clean install, good job. :D

Thanks for the pics, thats the one I am going for.. How do you like it so far?

Zcott 10-20-2009 09:00 AM

So far so good.
Very easy to use.
I'll know more after I have the camera and sat radio working.

SlikNik 10-20-2009 02:14 PM

Nice,
That is one of the reasons I went with Eclipse AVN726. It is all screen.

Let us know how you like it when you get the extras put in.

Sigur 10-20-2009 03:00 PM

It does look nice with less buttons

coaxial 10-25-2009 01:59 PM

Where did you get the bracket so the head unit would fit in there? I like how it matches and most of the things out there seem kind of off..

SlikNik 10-25-2009 02:48 PM

The stereo uses the bracket that was attached to the factory unit. Just screw it on to the new unit and that's it.

Zcott 10-25-2009 10:13 PM

:iagree: Use the bracket from the factory.

Sirius is now hooked up, and it works great on the NZ509.
Didn't have time for the camera so that's my last piece of the puzzle, and the one I'm most curious about.

Guess I'll "see" in the near future.

BTW, if you are interested in using your phone with your head unit this model may not be a good fit. From what I can tell it uses a generic adapter that's a little larger than the sat antenna, and it's not attractive. Someone with more knowledge of those things might have more info... I wasn't interested in that.

So the old stereo comes out and the double din just goes right in. That is amazing...

You will prob have a gap tho, I'll prob buy the metra kit just so it fits in flush. Your Nav looks good, but I'll still go with the kenwood cus of the volume knob being alil quicker & easier to use.

coaxial 10-26-2009 11:59 AM

what is the metra kit? Where could I get it?

NewYorkJon34 10-26-2009 12:15 PM

Instead of just sticking the Nav in where the stock radio is, the metra kit is kinda like an adapter so the Nav unit sits more flush with less of a gap. Link: The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts: Aftermarket Radio Face Plate, 2009 370Z

I ordered my Clarion NX509 a few minutes ago. I like the look of it, plus I got it about $1000 less than the top Pioneer/Kenwood HU.

Got my Focal Polyglass 165VR's as well. Awesome speakers at a GREAT price.

Zcott 10-27-2009 04:48 PM

Sweet!

Are you doing the work, or having it put in?

Got a local installer doing the HU, speakers, backup cam, bluetooth, amp, and illuminated kick plate. All the labor is around $300-350. It's either a decent price, or I'm lazy. :happydance:

2 more days!

So, I'm still having 1 issue:

I can't get it so that the BLT370 interrupts my current source (DVD, Tuner, etc.) when an incoming call comes in. I have to answer it via the bluetooth controller, and then manually switch the source of the head unit to AUX.

Any way to have it automatically switch to the phone call unless I reject the call?

Using the Clarion NX509 and BLT370.

Maybe that's why you got it for about $1000 less than the top Pioneer/Kenwood HU.

Matt,

I wasn't interested in using the unit with a phone, so I never checked into any of that other than to see the big adapter that was needed.

Sorry I can't help.

All the other functions have been top notch.

I honestly can not help, you might want too look in your setting or manual.

It appears from the manual that it may be the TEL-INT (brown wire) that's part of the harness on the BLT370 that wasn't hooked up correctly. I'll get the installers to take a look at it tomorrow.

Just an update to my problem...

A bluetooth adapter can not be used on AUX1 on the NX509. Bluetooth adapters must be connected via AUX2 in order for the Telephone Interrupts/controls to work.

The manual vaguely implies that AUX2 is used for bluetooth, but doesn't say it won't work on AUX1.

Fixed!

 Excellent!

Zcott 11-08-2009 01:38 PM

Glad to hear it Matt.

I have to say the manual for the NX509 is NOT the best I've seen.
It implies a lot that should be explicitly stated.

I had a problem with the Sirius hook up at first because the manual states the CeNET cable provides power. It implies that the 3amp yellow wire is only to power additional hardware such as a changer.
Nope... if you don't hook up that wire, there's no power to the Sirius unit at all...
:shakes head:

Exactly. It sounds like the people typing up the instructions weren't too sure of how the darn thing worked!
