Heat issues when mounting amp behind rear bar?

Hi folks. I know the space behind the rear bar (in front of spare) is a popular one for mounting amps.

I am doing some rewiring in preparation for adding a second amp for my sub.

I was a little concerned at the thought of having two amps in that space with no ventilation.

Carpet would go back on and then I would add a zenclosure box that would sit on top of the amp location, effectively making it one big oven.

I was wondering if anyone had overheating issues, when mounting amps in this area and placing the carpet and or box over the space.

Any suggestions for increasing ventilation or should I just give up and look to mount the amps in other location?

Thanks!

At one point I had 2 amps in the car. One in the area you described, and one above, in plain sight. The one above, with the huge magnifying glass rear window above it was the one that occasionally overheated. My suggestion is try it, it if overheats, add a cooling fan down there with it.

Thanks for the input Ron. I had originally planned to pull my spare and mount them both there. So luckily I already ran the wires to the trunk.

Just trying to find the most logical place to mount. Will be doing some test fitting over the weekend and might mount my main one under the seat if it will fit.

I had two BIG amps under there, box on top, not once did mine over heat and I ran them hard and for long periods. Shot thinking about it I've had 3 different brands under there. no issues.

Thanks 90 ST. One variable I did not mention is cost.

In my experience better gear is more heat efficient. I don't have the top line stuff. I may go ahead and mount at the back and monitor temps just to see.

I know the shelf or area behind the seats is also great but I am trying not to mangle my interior too much.

What amps are they?
