Rainbow Audio

Has anyone heard of Rainbow audio and if so are they any good?

bigaudiofanat 10-16-2009 11:35 AM

Yes very good right up there with Image Dynamics and focal. Just make sure to have good clean power going to them. Also the more expensive ones are the better ones.

370ZBLACK09 10-16-2009 11:37 AM

could you recommend a setup for my 370Z? I am looking at the IPAUL DM2000 for my amps but I dont know what subs to use
I kind of new to this type of thing

bigaudiofanat 10-16-2009 11:49 AM

Take a look at this link there are plenty of recommendation here. If you would like other choices just ask. "sorry just busy working on a report"

Yeah i looked at that thread but im looking for Rainbow subs and would like to know for any rainbow recommendations

bigaudiofanat 10-16-2009 02:49 PM

I would say you would happier with ID subs rather than rainbow subs. There components are better than there subs.

I think Big A and I covered this pretty well but again I will agree with him about the Subs. The best sounding subs out there for the money are JL and Image Dynamics. There are a few exceptions out there but if you stick to them, you will be happy.

It is very common for high end audio companies to make great components and so so subs, Diamond Audio comes to my mind. Or you get the opposite like JL, they make awesome subs and amps but thier components are Meh! ok, but not great.

However if you like really dry sounding bass that is super accurate for like Jazz and Classical, you might want to look at Focal subs. Note, they have to be ported. That is what Focal recommends. Despite the fact that they are ported, they have amazing sound quality.

I have played around with the Access and Polyglass series subs and I feel they are worth mentioning. But my personal favorite subwoofer is a JL 12W6V2 in a 1.5 cu ft sealed enclosure!

How do you feel about jl audio 10W3v3 or 10W1v2?

SB350z 10-17-2009 12:28 AM

Rainbow audio :supergay: .. sorry just had to! :rofl2:

Two thumbs up for JL Audio W3v3 series! They sound sweet!

The W1V2 series are ok but I hate how they look, but the new W0V2's are cheaper and better!

If you are running 250Watts or more go W3, if less than I would go W0 series.

370ZBLACK09 10-18-2009 11:53 PM

What is your opinion on whether to go with 2 10s or a single 12 W3?

bigaudiofanat 10-19-2009 08:03 AM

Single 12 much wider freq band that they can reproduce. The ID Q will be tighter than the JL but they are about them same.

2fast4thelaw 10-19-2009 08:08 AM

I also agree with a single 12, same reasons plus its more cost effective.

What is the difference between 2,4,and 8 ohms? And which one should i choose if I going to use the Rainbow Ipaul Dm2000?

The lower the number of Ohms, the more difficult it is for an amplifier to drive the load.

Most all car audio speakers are 4 ohm therefore all car audio amplifiers are rated to drive 4 ohm speaker. Any good car audio amplifier will drive a 2 ohm load without breaking a sweat.

Most home audio speakers are 8 ohm (higher resistance)

In car audio speakers, specifically subwoofers, come in different ohms ratings for getting the most out of your amplifier.

Lets say your amplifer has a rating of 250watts RMS X 1 @ 4ohms and 500watts RMS X1 @ 2 ohms.

If have a subwoofer that is 2 Ohms you can harness that extra 250 watts that would otherwise not be produced if you are using a 4 ohm driver.

Now lets say you have (2) identical 4 ohm subwoofers, you can wire them parallel (+ to + and - to - ) together and the two subwoofers wired in this configuration will create a 2 ohm load.

Remember that your amplifier will work twice as hard to drive a 2 ohm load so make sure it can handle this rating and that it gets proper cooling to disapate the extra heat.

bigaudiofanat 10-19-2009 01:28 PM

The ones you should really watch out for are 1 ohm loads you must make sure that your amp is 1 ohm stable and in some cases .5 ohms. A lot of what you could be asking can be found in this thread.

370ZBLACK09 10-19-2009 02:24 PM

Ok i am going to use the Ipaul DM2000 amp and here are the specs on it

Power Output at 4 Ohms: 360 Watts RMS
Power Output at 2 Ohms: 730 Watts RMS
Power Output at 1 Ohms: 1000 Watts RMS
THD: <0.02%
S/N Ratio: >95dBA
Frequency Response +/- 3dB: 10Hz-250Hz
Input Sensitivity: 250mV - 6V
Variable Subsonic Filter
Low-pass Filter: 50Hz-250Hz, 24dB/Oct
Current Draw: 90 Amps Maximum
Dimensions: W x H x D:415 x 60 x 250 mm

should i go with a 2,4, or 8 ohm sub
I think the sub i am going to go with is the IDQ12v3.d4 or one of the JL 12W3v3s

bigaudiofanat 10-19-2009 05:03 PM

You can go with a DVC 4 ohm or a DVC 2 ohm. Either way you can run them. just make sure that you wire the voice coils the right way and also set your gain on the amp.

370ZBLACK09 10-21-2009 11:41 AM

Should I get the Ipaul DM2000 or is there a JL amp that is better?

Personally I would get a JL HD series amp but that is my preference, others may and will inevitably disagree. I like the HD series becasue they are extremly compact and completely class D for incredible effeciency. For an all class D series amp, they are the best you can get right now. The Alpine PDX is the only other amp out there like them but the JL HD amps are a better amplifer.

The 600/4 would be all that you would need. The 900/5 is overkill but if you want lots of power its the way to go.

I am using the 900/5 and I have 500 watts going to my sub and 100 watts X 2 to mid's and the other 100 watts X 2 going to my tweeters.

Its way more amplifier than I need, I would have sufficed with a 600/4.

The JL amplifiers have much higher damping factor. They are >800 @ 4 ohms and the iPaul is only >160 @ 4 ohms.

The higher the damping factor, the more control the amplifier has over driver which equals tighter, harder hitting bass!

This why higher end, smaller amplifers will outperform larger, less expensive ones. Not all watts are created equal!

I have rainbow cs 265.25 germaniums laying around they sound great i had them in my mazda they are 6.5" let me know if you are interested in them. literally used them for like a week and then i traded the car in lol.

bigaudiofanat 10-27-2009 04:05 PM

lol i had a mazda 6 like 3 cars ago. the germs have just been sitting in the box since i havent used them at all. I had a stage 2 vw GLI before the z that i have now.

speedfreak28 10-28-2009 11:29 AM

The germs are nice, most of the rainbows below them in the lineup are mediocre. Just outta curiostiy DAISHI, how much are you looking to sell teh germs for?
Also just an FYI, if you buy rainbow the only way you will get a warranty is at an authorized dealer. No online company is authorized to sell their product.

probably around 300 or so. the price is negotiable. I did get them through an authorized dealer. a got them through a member on caraudio.com he has a shop and is an authorized dealer.

370ZBLACK09 10-28-2009 11:39 PM

So should I go with a JL HD750/1 amp over the Ipaul DM2000?
