Replying to private messages
 

I'm constantly getting replies from members private messages in my email inbox. Why this is happening? well, every time one member pms another member, they get an email from The370Z saying "you've got a pm at the forums" and it includes the pm detail. It clearly states in the email "DO NOT REPLY to this email". It also clearly states, "Please sign in to the forums to reply" but people are constantly hitting reply and guess who gets the email? ME, since it was sent from The370Z.com. The person that suppose to get the reply, never gets your reply.

So, please keep all the pm replying in the forums. The email you receive in your email inbox is just for notification only. DO NOT REPLY to that email.

I bumped this thread because it's still happening :( Guys, it's very time consuming to copy the content, find the correct member's s/n on the forum and forward the email content. Can you guy PLEASE reply to pms on the forum instead of the "notification email"? Thanks. :hello:

Just close the email function. Make people come to the board to see if they have private msgs :D

Well, it's great having a little notification email saying that you have a pm on the forum. Also, the member can turn it on or off according to their preferance (in usercp)

I'm bumping this because I am still receiving pm notification replied to me. When you reply to the the notification email, it DOESN'T go to the sending email yet it comes to me. Therefore it clearly says, DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL.

maybe have an auto reply back to them with a picture of Lemon Party or Gotse.cs and have a caption that says 'I TOLD YOU NOT TO REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. NOW LOOK AT THESE GAY OLD MEN!

they'd be in the middle of replying and then they'd have deja vu from the last time they saw the naked old men, then suddenly close their browser and run away. problem solved.

AK.. most mail servers accept a 'reply to' address to be sent with the email.. can't you force the database to place the reply to as the existing member?

Or is there a feature in the thread tools to automagically route those if they had a number attached or something?

That's got to be a nightmare for you..

There's your problem right there... You're assuming that the person you're talking to is intelligent and will get the point. But you can't be that naive... You have to expect the person is a complete re re and will respond back simply because you told them Not to. By changing this message to "Feel free to respond with any comments you might have! :tup:" In their mind that means they have to:

1. Click the 'Reply' button
2. Come up with a decent response
3. Type said response
4. Re-read their writing to make sure they don't sound like a re re.
5. Ignore the spell check function
6. Click send

All in all it means they have to WORK. People are lazy and frown upon exerting themselves. So if you in fact promote them to act, they will in turn shun these emails and turn them off to prevent having to log on simply to delete them. :shakes head:
