Front plate? I think not...

So after some recent discussion I've decided I'm not going to ruin the (insert indescribable synonym for beauty) of my 40th by installing a front license plate. Virginia requires it but a few things occurred to me...

1. I won't always be in Virginia which means when I leave I'm going to have two nasty holes in my front bumper.

2. It takes away from the look. The Z obviously has a indistinguishable design and putting a front plate on it just ruins that. (I apologize to the guys that have a front plate. :icon17:)

Is anyone else with me on this? I think I'll risk the $30 ticket or maybe come up with some excuse on how I'm waiting on a special bracket and hope it works. Personally I think the front plate is ridiculous. What purpose does it serve?

Sorry guys, just venting after a heated discussion with a local officer. Maybe I'll get lucky and the one who pulls me over will be as understanding as we are about our baby's. ;)

TheGreatOne 06-20-2012 11:01 AM

Well I'm lucky, my province does not need front plates. I definitely think it takes away from the look

What you could to is get the front license plate hideaway mod. Its an motorized device that hides and puts your plate in view when needed.

Not a bad idea. Just put it up after he pulls me over. Hahaha

90 ST 06-20-2012 11:17 AM

you could also get one of these:
STILLEN : STILLEN Front License Plate Bracket

I saw the thread about that. Not a bad idea but it still goes back to the detraction the front plate causes. I think we as Z enthusiasts should be exempt. I'm sure they'll buy that... Lol

I don't know about you, but I hate getting pulled over...period! In NY, I think it's a $50 fine + $75 surcharge. I can think of better things to spend $125 on. Not to mention the stress of constanly thinking the cop car next to you is going to spot it and pull you over. As much as I hate it, it's something I can live with. I have the Stillen bracket, so at least no holes on the bumper. One less thing to stress over.

Great point putting it in that perspective. Might be investing in that bracket... Or registering it in my home state. I think paying the registration taxes might just be worth it.

:iagree: I am doing the same thing. But I need to repair the dealer installed holes first.

dP3NGU1N 06-20-2012 11:44 AM

Can't speak for Virgina but in Cali the reason the state requires front license plates is because of traffic cams. They can't (read: have a lower chance to) catch you if you don't have a front license plate.

*insert stereotypical "f*ck tha pOlice!" statement here*

6MT 06-20-2012 11:51 AM

I'm with 'ya on this one! It does ruin the look of most vehicles, IMHO. But where I live, we don't need the front plate.

Bastages got ya. Should've made them repair it or give you a discount. Haha

I think I might title it in Virginia and register it in Indiana. Cheat the system... :happydance:

Here in Texas the law is a little complicated on this issue. Most cops dont pull you over for it unless they really wanna see whats in your car. A cop recently told me himself that " The plate just has to be at the front of your car visible, not necessarily mounted to your front bumper". He said take the ticket and you can fight it. I just keep mine in the windshield with those little suction cups. Passenger looses some view of the road though.

I'd have to think most officers are going to be understanding. Virginia is home to "some" a-holes though. I guess this will dictate how I treat this topic when I'm sworn in. (don't report me :rofl2:)

Good friend right there. :happydance:

It is $25 fix it ticket here in CA. It's basically processing fee.

I got ticketed.. bought the go-mini-go bracket, showed up at a police station (windows down since I've got tint), got it signed off then removed the bracket mount the next day :tiphat:

I've been driving the Z for almost 3 1/2 years and it was the first time I got ticketed for that. Figure the cop was just having a bad day so he decided to share the wealth. :stirthepot:

Srenity 06-20-2012 07:31 PM

No plate here either, but it came with one and had holes in the bumper :(. I have black plugs in the holes.

ZLife 06-20-2012 07:39 PM

No plate FTW

sabbysabs78 06-20-2012 08:10 PM

I'd tell them they'll be replacing your front bumper if they do. Lol

No plate here. Got two tickets not long after buying the car. One for no front plate and one for loud exhaust. Guess the cop is not a fan of Stillen :rofl2: .

They ticket you for LOUD EXHAUST?! I think that is ridiculous! What state do you live in? I think in Texas a cop would get spanked for trying to ticket you for such foolishness. I do not know how many muscle cars I know of with "loud exhaust."

I know! I live in Orange County, NY. I got the tickets in Chester, NY next to the entrance of a mini golf place. The cop said he heard me getting off the exit ramp and then told me if I am going to fool around to stay on the highway because it's safer (but not legal). I wish I had a GoPro when he said that :shakes head:.

Goshen And Chester are hands down the Worst Im was there when Nism0 got pulled over. I Personally have gotten a ticket for doing 34 in a 30 by Goshen cop. Then When some one hit my 350z and ran they told me they dont chance after minor stuff. But they hit me so hard it bent the front fender into the wheel so I could not move. It cost me well over 1500 in damage.

The journey begins... Got the plates today. Let's see how long I can go before they catch me. :happydance:
