good deal

It's the dealership closest to me and I wouldn't buy a cup of coffee from them. They wouldn't honor the price we had agreed to because they hadn't realized I'd be paying cash instead of financing. (They hadn't asked me the question and I hadn't volunteered the information.) They gave me the "We can't let a 2010 go at that price, but we've got a 2009 that we can deal on" routine while we were filling out the paperwork. I bought somewhere else.

Maybe somebody will get a great deal, but I'll be surprised if somebody walks out of that dealership with that car at that price.

If a dealer doesnt want to take a short deal or lose money on a car thats completely up to them. If you were the owner of the dealership you probably wouldnt do it either.

So you're saying that if a dealer shakes your hand on a price, says "let's fill out that paperwork", ushers you in to sign the paperwork, never bothers to ask you how you are going to pay for it, and then refuses to honor the price after they find out it won't be financed, that that is a perfectly ethical business practice? Don't think so.

I'm not saying that it's illegal. I'm saying it's not ethical and I'm also saying that if I were the owner of the dealership, that I would have honored the price, retrained my employees, and been content with the knowledge that you will get all of my service work for the next five to seven years.

They thought they could switch me to a higher priced car, when in reality all they did was lose all my service work and end up with somebody who is perfectly happy to tell the story to everybody they meet. How is that good business?

:iagree: Unless there's a clear sale going on where the salesman specifies that the price is contingent on financing, it should never get to the point where an agreed price is taken back. I've had dealers bait&switch me with internet pricing to get me on their lots, whereupon they admit it was a wrong price and I walk. I've even had a salesman tell me he was going to unload an '09 WRX for 21k, only later to hike the price back up to 26k when I was at his desk. But I've never had them do it to me after we've shaken on a price and sat down to paperwork. Bad mojo.

How did it even get to that point where you were going into the finance office to sign paperwork when the deal wasnt even complete. Its not the dealers job to read minds. I cant say i know how it all went down and it may of been a communication issue who knows but honestly you shouldnt of even let it get that far and went in to sign paperwork before you even knew what your payment was. Mistakes happen and its not even a question of ethics Your just pissed you didnt get the price you wanted at that time and had to go somewhere else. But why you would even go into an office to sign paperwork without knowing your payment and rate is beyond me. You kept on negotiating and going with the deal and negotiating price that the dealership thought you were paying cash since you didnt say anything.

As I stated in my first post, I was paying cash. There were to be no payments and there was no rate. All I needed to know was what the tax and license was. Cash is cash. They assumed I was financing; why I do not know since they never bothered to ask. I'm pissed because we agreed to a price and they changed their mind.

I'm not sure why you think I would be pissed about not knowing a rate or a payment when there wasn't one.

ah my bad read it wrong.. I guess their fault for assuming you were financing but sometimes theres cash back depending on which form of payment you use.

If a dealer did that to me I would threaten to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. That usually gets their attention. I've had to do that in the past when a dealer agreed to refund me a credit card fee since I would be installing my own aftermarket radio instead of letting them replace the defective one they had on the car. The salesmen basically refused the refund a few days after purchase because he said he never agreed on paper to do that. Needless to say after I filed a complaint and once management got wind of it, he drove 50 miles to my house to hand-deliver a money order.

Went to a local dealer today just to check out the 40th Z! I still hadn't seen one in person and fell in love instantly! I got offered $37,000 + ttl---which seems to be an OK deal from what I have seen posted!

Thing is, I was trying to do the smart thing and wait out my lease (I have a year left on an Altima coupe 2.5s) so I don't take a deep plunge! Dealer told me he is going to look into it and try to get me out of my lease scott-free, I doubt he can, but it will be worth seeing what he could do!

I absolutely loved the interior! The red was perfect, I was expecting a much "louder" color, but its quite classy!

I was debating the roadster too, but honestly I want to keep this car for a while and have it be a garage queen! The fact that there were only 1000 made makes it more attractive to me to hold onto for a long time! So we'll see what happens! I am still 50/50 at this point with either getting out of my lease or waiting it out!

Similar thing happened when I was buying my condo unit last year. I won't disclose the amount but the selling agent wanted to an additional $50k when they found I was buying the unit upfront with cash. Fast forward to present time, the still haven't found a buyer and the value of the unit dropped considerably. Not to mention the return I made on that money that would've been used to purchase the condo, gold is where it's at.

I'm a new 40th Z owner and to this site. I love the car and this site. I bought mine end of June in SoCal. $35k which included the destination charge. There were two dealerships with 7 in inventory. So I called them both and kept bidding them lower until one of them took the offer. It was almost like I stole this car!
