Steering lock issue
So my 09 370z touring has steering wheel lock stop working other day. I saw few people talk about dealer able to get it fix for free.
http://ww2.justanswer.co.uk/uploads/...eeringlock.pdf I got the car toll to them, but they said my Vin wasn't qualify. When I did a search recall with my VIN, the website said there are no open recalls or campaigns associated with this vehicle. Anyone has advice what I should do at this point? |
I’m thinking they stopped putting them in in either 12’ or 13’ models...do some more research on this/ Lotta different threads on it, as I’d want it removed completely.
Hopefully you’ll find some info; otherwise unsure the cost & definitely have a unit installed without the lock. |
Here's the holy grail thread: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...lved-real.html
Since yours is already toast you have basically two options. Beat on the module itself (under the steering column) with a rubber mallet while trying to start the vehicle and hope and pray that the pin inside the lock releases. If the car starts, immediately pull the ESCL fuse while the car is running (follow the instructions in the linked thread). The other option is to bite the bullet and replace the ESCL module (either pay the stealership a lot of money or you could probably DIY it easily enough). |
Good luck. My steering lock module recently failed on a 2011, and I raised hell with Nissan USA. It refused to warranty the faulty part -- even though I agreed to pay the labor. The experience really soured me on Nissan. The same part was recalled in the Maxima and Altimas, and Canada and Austrialia ordered a national recall in the early model Zs.
Eventually the dealer gave me a 10% discount on the work as a favor (a different dealer than the one I purchased my Z from). Thus the bottom line is that seek some discount from the dealer; preferably from the one that sold you the car, as it will have the incentive to keep you happy. Otherwise, you're SOL. |

They stopped using them mid-2011. Luckily my 2011 Nismo doesn't have one which is great. At this point, I think you're being overly optimistic thinking a dealer will replace it for free given your Z is an '09. Regardless of who pays for it, make sure you search the forum and find one of the many threads on how to disable the ESCL in the unlocked position.

The OP's location shows as TX, not the UK. Given the link the OP shared, I could see how it could be a little confusing.

 reading comprehension FTL
Age of the vehicle does not matter for a recall. I don't see why his vehicle wouldn't be on the recall list. Unless the recall was already done so the VIN no longer shows in Nissan's system? Maybe he's got a Rev D that failed. |
